About

Reducing print

As a department of the University of Cambridge, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint. A significant reduction to the print component of our journals publishing activity will be a key element of realising this commitment.

Reducing our journal carbon emissions

We recognise that, where our customers have a strong requirement for print, we must strive to provide it in a way that matches our drive to sustainability. We will also support customers who want to reduce their environmental impact with online-only access options.

50,000 journal copies equals:

  • 450 trees are cut down
  • 1.995t C02 if we mailed copies 500m by truck
  • 17.25t C02 emitted during paper production
  • 6.560t C02 emitted during print production
  • 42.5t C02 if we mailed copies 2000m by plane
  • 6,250m2 Plastic polywrap 0.25m tall used
