Stephen Hawking was born in 1942 in England and studied physics at university. He was diagnosed with motor neuron disease and given only a few years to live, but his disease progressed more slowly than predicted. Hawking went on to become a renowned physicist and author, researching the origins and structure of the universe. Despite being paralyzed and using a wheelchair and speech synthesizer, Hawking's mind was able to explore the cosmos and share complex scientific ideas with the public through his work.
