Request for years

[edit]

Hello, I don't know you have approval for adding labels and descriptions or not but I'm thinking It would be great if you can add English (or even more) labels and descriptions for items of Islamic years. We have two kind of Islamic calender and we need a change in order of 3K edits so i need bots (I can write the code but because I don't have approval to do that, it would be a very time-consuming process). I did it for two kinds as an example First and Second. Can you help me? ThanksAmir (talk) 16:20, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

See the title. Your bot have created lots of items for pages that didn't have interlanguage links. Why? I think at the current Wikidata stage the items are completely unnecessary. I'm writing this because I have found many articles that actually had related items already. Now I have to delete the items created by your bot first. It takes several times more time than if your bot didn't do anything. --Moscowconnection (talk) 11:24, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bundesverdienstkreuz

[edit]

-- Task Force BVK (talk) 00:55, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

family names vs disambiguations

[edit]

Hi Sk!d! Look at the history of Q2032054 – I think that the IP is right, family names are often separate from disambiguations and should have property instance of : family name, not main type : name (disambiguation). Littledogboy (talk) 15:22, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think both is correct as the main type is only a vague value and all links seems to be disambiguation pages. Many other items uses these combinations too. --Sk!d (talk) 00:30, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Excuse me for butting in. The current description on this page says it is a family name, so I removed some that are disambiguation pages. On the English and Simple English Wikipedias, at least, Littledogboy is correct that the pages are often separate, so these should not be mixed. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:02, 4 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am fan of the Rule: "Try to have least different Items". The remaining pages still have the Disambiguation Template on it. And I still think this is correct. You can compare this with items of first names. There you can see what disambiguation pages are. And which pages really provide more then a list of people. With further information about the origin of the name, etc. --Sk!d (talk) 21:35, 4 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I brought this up because family name (P734) and given name (P735) have been create with item datatype... Littledogboy (talk) 15:02, 5 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hm for values of this properties I would prefer items with real articles about a name. And keep the items with lists of people separated. The items for those 2 properties should have the P107 (P107) value: term. --Sk!d (talk) 16:39, 5 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
But consider that for every surname we now need a surname item. Littledogboy (talk) 10:52, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but I don't think its possible for a bot to see if it is a surname or what so ever. --Sk!d (talk) 11:43, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Let's wait for the result of the debate first... Littledogboy (talk) 12:34, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Labels for items corresponding to categories with disambiguators

[edit]

Hi Sk!d. When Sk!dbot created items corresponding to en.wiki categories, it followed the simple heuristic of stripping from the label whatever occurs after the first parenthesis (random example). This is a pretty good heuristic for creating labels for items corresponding to Wikipedia articles but for categories it's clearly the wrong choice. In fact, the convention followed by most bots is to use the exact name of the category as the item label. For instance the label of Category:Kiss (band) (Q7570241) in German, English and Slovene all include the parenthetical disambiguator. Moreover, even for categories with simpler names (say Category:Foo), the label is always simply "Category:Foo" and not "Wikipedia category for things related to Foo". One of the resulting problems is that Sk!dbot (and probably a few other bots but yours is the one I noticed) has created unnecessary groups of items with highly ambiguous labels such as [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] to cite a few. It would be appreciated if you can re-run the bot to fix the issue. Thanks! Mergehappy (talk) 04:58, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this is a mistake. Littledogboy (talk) 12:36, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Since it is a mistake and since the mistake comes from your bot, you and the bot should be responsible for cleaning it up. Thank you, Mergehappy (talk) 16:10, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nati nel…

[edit]

Hi. Some months ago your bot has created new Wikidata items from articles in the Italian Wikipedia, like this one: Q3872130. It's classified using the main type property (P107) but this is a list. Shouldn't we change the property to P360? Neatnik (talk) 10:50, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct this property was wrong I changed it. But my bot did not add this property. It was User:KLBot2 see [6] you should contact him that his bot did a mistake there. --Sk!d (talk) 13:18, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Woops, sorry. I assumed the property had been added by the same bot. Neatnik (talk) 23:14, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

List of conflicts

[edit]

Hi! Just looking at User:Sk!dbot/conflict and this item...

  • Q10802351: Another item Q3691 already has label "Calbuco" and description "doorverwijspagina" associated with language code nl (09. Jul 01:06)

Perhaps the bot can ignore conflicts of this type, where one of the two items is indicated as P107 (P107) = Q11651459? Danrok (talk) 22:49, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is a direct api error. My bot tried to set the description. For this item. Wikidata does not allow to items with same label + description, thats why the error occure. In most cases this means the item should get merged or the description of the item is obsolete. --Sk!d (talk) 22:56, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK thanks! Danrok (talk) 16:32, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I had missed Wikidata:Requests for permissions/Bot/Sk!dbot 3 but it seems to be nicely thought out. However there is a red link to User:Sk!dbot/Template and I am not sure to understand where you intend to make the list of constraints. I would think the best solution would be a list in a subpages of user:Sk!dbot. If that can be organized thematically that would make it easier to link from the relevant task forces. Cheers, --Zolo (talk) 07:46, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ups, I moved the Template without creating a redirect. I know fixed it. As you can see on my Users page I did excactly as you said see: User:Sk!dbot#Automated Bot changes. --Sk!d (talk) 08:25, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I would just add an aoptional "relevant task forces" column to make exchanges easier with thematic task forces (the pages are likely to become very long for properties like instance of (P31)). --Zolo (talk) 13:20, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You can use what ever you want, as this is just a page to inform every body. Could you make an edit to explain what you mean? --Sk!d (talk) 19:38, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, this means that pages like User:Sk!dbot/P21 are completely independent from the list used by the bot ? Is there a way we can see the list used by the bot ? --Zolo (talk) 06:08, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I thought about parsing a page for the list. But to prevent vandalism, I will not do this. --Sk!d (talk) 09:42, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, could we have at least a read-only version of the list though, so that we are perfectly clear about what the bot does (and perhaps even check that all instructions make sense, which might get tricky as the list gets longer). --Zolo (talk) 16:27, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hm thats what the subpages should be. If I change something in my bot configuration. I will change it on the list. In most of the cases if there are non trivial changes I will start a discussion on the discussion page for the property. --Sk!d (talk) 12:47, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sk!d, I just want to let you know that I removed the German page as it is no disambiguation page. Regards--Oursana (talk) 02:48, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, I've noticed your bot imported this item Q1777195 from German and English Wikipedia. But on German wikipedia the interlanguage link to the English wikipedia article contained an anchor to a section, which is not supported on Wikidata. So it created a wrong link in wikidata. So interlanguage links with an anchor should not be imported I think. But maybe/probably this has already been fixed since 2012.--Bthfan (talk) 07:25, 29 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Strange edit from last year

[edit]

Hi Sk!d. Not sure it matters too much now but just wondering what happened during the creation of this item that made it have tonnes of aliases: edit removing aliases. Thought I'd bring it to your attention just in case. Cheers. Delsion23 (talk) 22:52, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Aliases where added from redirects. Maybe the Item had this many redirects? --Sk!d (talk) 00:41, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sk!dbot creating items for aliases

[edit]

Hi. I have been going through the Wikidata:The_Game/Flagged_items and a lot of these were created last year by User:Sk!dbot based on redirects in the Portugese wikipedia.

  • In many cases you have created items based on redirects which are aliases rather than real items. These all need to be merged.
  • You have created a lot of items for bairros of Brazilian cities. It would have been helpful to add "instance of (P31)neighborhood of Brazil (Q19658107)" when these were created.

For future bot runs could you watch out for these issues? Fixing them by hand is going to take a lot of work. Filceolaire (talk) 21:07, 23 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Pleas check if there were article at the item creation time or if there where no correct redirect template. I used the pywikibot framwork to check for redirects. --Sk!d (talk) 22:50, 23 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hello, your bot created this wikidata entry: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q989120 And it prevents me from creating interwiki links. I want to link together this English and Hungarian elements, but cannot, it rejects my edits on both wikidata entries (the other one is https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1056324):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_I_and_type_II_errors https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Els%C5%91faj%C3%BA_%C3%A9s_m%C3%A1sodfaj%C3%BA_hiba

Or maybe I just cannot understand what should be the correct way to link them based on the error messages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.181.169.23 (talk) 16:43, 4 сентября 2015‎

Sk!dbot

[edit]

Your bot has been listed at Wikidata:Requests for permissions/Removal/Inactive bot accounts as being inactive for over two years. As a housekeeping measure it's proposed to remove the bot flag from inactive bot accounts, unless you expect the bot will be operated again in the near future. If you consent to the removal of the bot flag (or do not reply on the deflag page) you can rerequest the bot flag at Wikidata:Requests for permissions/Bot should you need it again. Of course, You may request retaining your bot flag here if you need the bot flag. Regards--GZWDer (talk) 12:44, 26 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • I do understand that a question about inactivity and lack of response, generally should not be combined with questions about specific issues. However the problem with bad bots is that the bad bots can, without much effort of the culprit, can produce many bad items, as seems to have happened in this case. I do hope there is a way to reverse all the bad changes that were made by the bot of Sk!d.

Still alive? New request about "disambiguation page description" (catalan)

[edit]

On December 17, 2012, you got an answer / request to Wikidata talk:WikiProject Labels and descriptions#Bot setting automatic disambiguation description stating that the field description for catalan (“ca”) should be Pàgina de desambiguació. We have now noticed that this breaks two of the stile rules: a) no capitalization; b) mentioning of the project on special pages.

Could you (the bot) change all the occurrences of “Pàgina de desambiguació” in the catalan description and turn them into "pàgina de desambiguació de Wikimedia"? Thanks.

Automated Wikidata entities

Why does it create it?

Why is it an 'instance of' hotel? Must be instance of collection.

Pollution of Wikidata

[edit]

Hi, Sk!dbot ,

I saw a "contribution" by you/your bot, that is in my opinion evidently not correct. I do like to talk with people that make changes/additions on Wikipedia/Wikidata, that i have doubts about. That leads almost allways to some sort of consent. And it often leads to interesting converrsations, which sometimes inspire me. However, bot contributions that are bad, do not inspire me. i When i talk with a person, who as i do, works "by hand", i can talk. Sometimes i am nt completely convinced, but i do see that the other person has a point.

But how can i argue or correct the wrong-doings of a person/bot that might have made maybe hundreds of mistakes? If you would care, you would have been carefull, not to make very dubious changes by a bot.

Call for participation in the interview study with Wikidata editors

[edit]

Dear Sk!d,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King’s College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research that develops a personalized recommendation system to suggest Wikidata items for the editors based on their interests and preferences. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I would love to talk with you to know about your current ways to choose the items you work on in Wikidata and understand the factors that might influence such a decision. Your cooperation will give us valuable insights into building a recommender system that can help improve your editing experience.

Participation is completely voluntary. You have the option to withdraw at any time. Your data will be processed under the terms of UK data protection law (including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018). The information and data that you provide will remain confidential; it will only be stored on the password-protected computer of the researchers. We will use the results anonymized to provide insights into the practices of the editors in item selection processes for editing and publish the results of the study to a research venue. If you decide to take part, we will ask you to sign a consent form, and you will be given a copy of this consent form to keep.

If you’re interested in participating and have 15-20 minutes to chat (I promise to keep the time!), please either contact me at kholoudsaa@gmail.com or kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdmmFHaiB20nK14wrQJgfrA18PtmdagyeRib3xGtvzkdn3Lgw/viewform?usp=sf_link with your choice of the times that work for you.

I’ll follow up with you to figure out what method is the best way for us to connect.

Please contact me if you have any questions or require more information about this project.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Regards

Kholoudsaa (talk)

Hello, I'm Eihel. In case you didn't know, descriptions begin with a lowercase letter except when uppercase would normally be required or expected. Essentially, you should pretend that the description is appearing in the middle of a normal sentence, and then follow normal language rules. Most terms would not be capitalized if they appeared in the middle of a sentence. However terms such as proper nouns (e.g. the names of specific people, specific places, and specific titles) should be capitalized. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks!  Eihel (talk) 04:41, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
