In an age where nostalgia and reboots are in high demand, it's shocking Disney has so many different movies and TV shows unavailable on DVD or major streaming platforms (such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and iTunes). Disney has aired reruns of its content since Day 1, but it looks like we're going to have to wait until the year 2121 to relive all these great Disney movies and TV series.
Before you say, "Um, this stuff is on YouTube," you're absolutely correct. However, 1.) it's on there illegally, and 2.) it's awful quality. The audio is super distorted, the image is obnoxiously cropped, or it's some kind of combo of the two.
So, what gives, Disney? Why are you keeping these gems from us? WHAT ARE YOU HIDING?
1. Phil of the Future
The greatest Disney Channel series — don't @ me — isn't available on ANYTHING. Why? And don't even try to convince me that "Gadgets & Gizmos" DVD with four episodes counts. I need to relive Pheely's evolution, and I need to relive it now.
2. Model Behavior
Remember Justin Timberlake's feature-film debut where he played a celeb who got caught up in two lookalike girls' shenanigans? Well, unless you have a VCR, you're not going to be rewatching this Wonderful World of Disney classic anytime soon.
3. H-E Double Hockey Sticks
Disney once made a movie about Hell — and it was absolutely glorious. Boy Meets World dream team Will Friedle and Matthew Lawrence co-starred in this lost dark comedy.
4. So Weird
Disney Channel's version of Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid of the Dark? or Fox Kids' Goosebumps was definitely the network's creepiest show. It followed a girl who blogged about her supernatural encounters. With Halloween coming up, this seems like the perfect time to release the series. Hint hint, wink wink, Disney.
5. Susie Q
This DCOM imposter about a girl dying in the 1950s, only to return as a ghost in the 1990s, was quirky and a tad dark. Too bad no one can rewatch it.
6. The Famous Jett Jackson
While the DCOM, Jett Jackson: The Movie, is available on Amazon and iTunes, the TV series about action hero Silverstone is nowhere to be found.
7. The Jersey
Disney's series about a magic jersey that can turn people into famous athletes is pure '90s TV. The show even had sports stars play themselves in various episodes.
8. Flash Forward
This early Disney show about kids battling middle school while reliving their younger days starred Ben Foster, before he became the 3:10 to Yuma and Hell or High Water star we know today.
9. Northern Lights
The first DCOM (though there's debate on that) that starred Diane Keaton isn't available on DVD or streaming. It's like this movie just up and disappeared from existence. ~Illuminati confirmed.~
10. Brothers on the Frontier
This Western movie featuring Joey, Matthew, and Andy Lawrence as 18th century settlers who get separated from their parents ran on Disney Channel in the late '90s. If you didn't see it then, you missed your chance, I guess.
11. The Buzz on Maggie
This short-lived animated series about a fly who gets into and out of trouble in her insect community had a totally fire theme song.
12. My Date with the President's Daughter
Like with Model Behavior, this movie was straight outta the Wonderful World of Disney, and is only available for those who still have a working VCR. Watching Will Friedle adorkably woo POTUS's daughter needs to be seen (and re-seen) by every generation.
