A Seminar Presentation ON: Construction of Auditorium and Central Library Building"

The document summarizes the construction of an auditorium and central library building at Graphic Era University. It outlines the key steps in the construction process, including surveying, excavation, pile foundation construction using 212 piles, a raft foundation with 800mm thickness, column construction using M30 grade concrete, reinforcement including a bar bending schedule, concreting using vibrators, and curing the concrete. The project is expected to be completed in August 2017 after starting in November 2015.

SEMINAR PRESENTATION
ON
“CONSTRUCTION OF
AUDITORIUM AND CENTRAL
LIBRARY BUILDING”

MODEL OF CONSTRUCTION SITE
Introduction About Project
Project :Construction Of Auditorium And Central Library
Building

Location: Graphic Era University

Covered Area: 1,80,000 Sq.Ft.

Architect: Renaiscent Consultant Pvt. Ltd. Delhi

Contractors: Mr. Kuldeep Singh Negi And Mr. Gagan Goyal,

Dehradun

Project Started: 9/11/2015

Expected Time : August,17

Before Construction Begins
These Necessary Steps are PERFORMED

1. SURVEYING
• Surveying is an art of determining relative positions
of points on above or below the surface of earth by
means of direct or indirect measurements.
• Through survey we transferred the bench mark to
4150mm below the road level which is considered as
reference point whose level is 0-0.
•Through survey we have marked various grid point on
the plot area and through which we made grid lines.
2. Excavation

Excavation is the process of shifting earth, rock or other

materials. It includes earthwork, trenching, tunneling
and underground.
In our project somewhere we excavated to depth of
3150mm and somewhere about 4150mm depending
upon the depth required for foundation of the building.

In our project,

Total volume of excavated soil = 11697.3145cu.m.

3. Pile Foundation

A pile is basically a long cylinder of a strong material such

as concrete that is pushed into the ground to act as a steady
support for structures built on top of it.

In our project 212 end bearing piles are used in which 197
pile are constructed on site and 15 still needs to be
constructed and piles are 11m in actual length but are
designed as 10m.

Grade of concrete used in piling was M25 which consists a

ratio of 1:1:2
Process Of Piling
4. RAFT FOUNDATION

A RAFT FOUNDATION IS USED FOR BUILDINGS ON COMPRESSIBLE

GROUND SUCH AS SOFT CLAY, ALLUVIAL DEPOSITS AND COMPRESSIBLE
FILL MATERIALS.

IN OUR PROJECT THICKNESS OF RAFT WAS 800MM AND THE M25

GRADE OF CONCRETE WAS USED.
5. Column Construction

It's a vertical member which transfers loads from slab and

beam directly to subsequent soil.
In our project M30 grade of concrete is used and
reinforcement grade was Fe-500.
PREPARATION OF BAR BENDING SCHEDULE (BBS)

Bar bending schedules are very important part of detailing and

should include the following:
Identification of the structural member,
Position of each bar in the member,
Bar marks and diameter of each bar,
Number of bars of each type in each member,
Shape and bending dimensions of each bar,
Length of each bar , and
Remark if any.

CONCRETING
Placing of CONCRETE is called concreting.
CONCRETE
A construction material made of a mixture of cement,
sand, stone, and water that hardens to a solid mass.
stonelike mass.
VIBRATORS
THESE ARE MOBILE ITEMS OF MECHANICAL
PLANT USED TO VIBRATE (SHAKE) AIR OUT OF
FRESH CONCRETE. IN OUR PROJECT NEEDLE
VIBRATOR WAS USED AS SHOWN IN THE FIGURE.
CURING
CURING IS THE PROCESS IN WHICH THE CONCRETE IS
PROTECTED FROM LOSS OF MOISTURE AND KEPT WITHIN A
REASONABLE TEMPERATURE RANGE. THIS PROCESS RESULTS
IN CONCRETE WITH INCREASED STRENGTH AND DECREASED
PERMEABILITY.
