(MSRTC) at Gokul Shirgaon MIDC , Kolhapur.
Constructions.
INTRODUCTION
The visit to the Construction Site at Gokul Shirgaon MIDC was conducted by Civil
Engineering Department, Department Of Technology , Shivaji University Kolhapur. On
Saturday, 11 January 2020. Students from Third Year and Final Year Civil Engineering were
taken to the Construction site of Workshop of MSRTC for observing and understanding the
Construction practices on the site for minimizing the gap between construction practices and
Academics for the Students. This visit has scheduled between 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students
were allowed to observe the functioning of each construction activity and their queries were also
answered by the site engineer during the visit.

Combined Rectangular Footing with P.C.C.
After excavation an Anti-Termite Treatment has been done. For Anti-Termite treatment
CHLORO-PHOSPHURUS Chemical is used and then PCC is laid down. For PCC work M10
grade concrete has been used. For footing M20 Concrete and Fe 500 Steel is used.
FORMWORK:
On site wooden formwork was used having thickness 25mm.
REINFORCEMENT:
For the construction of column reinforcement Fe500 is used.
3
Reinforcement for Cantilever Beam:
For cantilever beam reinforcement is taken from the whole column upto the footing.
For this 25mm main reinforcement is used and 8mm stirrups are used.
BRICKWORK :
Flemish bond was used in brick masonry work. & Sill height was 0.9m.

Precautions taken on site are as follows:
Bricks were submerged in water before use.
Field test are carried out on bricks before used for construction of brick masonry to check
quality of bricks.
RETAINING WALL:
5
Height of retaining wall is 5m Main reinforcement of Fe500 with 16mm bars was used.
Thickness of retaining wall at bottom is more than that of top At bottom it was 600mm and at
top 230mm. It is provided in 5 layers, Gunny bags were used for curing purpose.
STAIRCASE:
6
Testing of concrete cube Manufacturing of covers
While production of concrete cubes are used to check the compressive strength of
concrete.
Total 6 cubes were casted, 3 cubes for 7 days testing and remaining for 28 days
strength.
Covers were also casted on site & Diameter of cover is about 40mm and height of
cover varies according to section.
Automatic Self Weighing Mixer For Concreting Work
7
Automatic self weighing mixer is used on site. The capacity of mixer is about 1.8 cubic
meters. Initially crush sand, aggregate and cement were dry mix into drum and then water is added as
per the mix design. The gauging time is about 2 to 3 minutes. A report of each batch is made in the
form of recipet and it is submitted to the concern authority.
