Quick Revision Notes

Ch 1 Real Numbers
HCF = Lowest power
LCM = Highest power
HCF × LCM = Product of two numbers
Terminating and Non Terminating and Repeating are Rational Numbers
Non Terminating and Non Repeating are Irrational Numbers.
For a Terminating Decimal expansion, the factors of the denominator
should be of the form 2n × 5m.

Ch 2 Polynomials
Linear: degree 1
Quadratic: degree 2
Cubic: degree 3
For a quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c = 0
−b c
α + β= , αβ=
a a
To solve a quadratic polynomial, use middle term splitting method.
For a cubic polynomial ax3 + bx2 + cx + d = 0
−b c −d
α + β+ γ = ,αβ + βγ + γα= , αβγ=
a a a

For graphs, read page no. 23 to 27 of NCERT.

Ch 3 Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables

Learn the table on page 46 NCERT.
Two methods in syllabus:
Substitution and Elimination.

Ch 4 Triangles
Basic Proportionality Theorem (BPT) also known as Thales Theorem
Similarity concepts: SSS, SAS, AAA, AA.
Keep in mind the naming of the triangles while doing questions.
Ratio of areas of two similar triangles is equal to the square of ratio of a
pair their corresponding sides.
Pythagoras Theorem or Baudhayan Theorem.

Ch 5 Co-ordinate Geometry
Distance formula: √(x 2−x 1 )2 +( y 2− y 1 )2
m1 x 2+ m2 x 1 m1 y 2 +m2 y 1
Section formula: m1+ m2
, m +m
1 2

x1 + x 2 + x 3 y 1+ y 2+ y 3
Centroid of a triangle: ,
3 3

Ch 6 Trigonometry
Sin Cos Tan
P B P
H H B
Cosec Sec Cot

Learn table of values of all angles.

sin2A + cos2A = 1
1 + tan2A = sec2A
cot2A + 1 = cosec2A
Revise all NCERT questions of Exercise 8.4

Ch 7 Area Related to Circles

Area of a circle: A=π r 2
Circumference of a circle: 2 πr
2
πr
Area of a semicircle:
2
Circumference of a semicircle: πr +2 r
θ 2
Area of a sector: 360 π r
θ
Length of an arc: 360 2 πr
Area of a right angle triangle: ½ × B × H
Area of an equilateral triangle: √ side 2
3
4

Ch 8 Probability
Learn sample space of 2 dice, 2 coins and 3 coins.

Formula to find the total number of outcomes:

no. of times the event is carried out
(no. of outcomes in one event)

For example: One coin is tossed 20 times

So the total no. of outcomes will 220

Important Identities

 (x + y)2 = x2 + 2xy + y2
 (x – y)2 = x2 – 2xy + y2
 x2 – y2 = (x + y) (x – y)
 (x + a) (x + b) = x2 + (a + b)x + ab.
 (x + y + z)2 = x2 + y2 + z2 + 2xy + 2yz + 2zx.
 (x + y)3 = x3 + y3 + 3xy(x + y)
 (x – y)3 = x3 – y3 – 3xy(x – y)
 x3 + y3 + z3 – 3xyz = (x + y + z) (x2 + y2 + z2 – xy – yz – zx)
