4. A dockworker loading crates on a ship finds that a 20 kg crate, initially at rest on a horizontal
surface, requires a 75 N horizontal force to set it in motion. However, after the crate is in motion,
a horizontal force of 60 N is required to keep it moving with a constant speed. Find the coefficient
of static and kinetic friction between crate and floor.

30. A towing car of mass 1000 kg, works at a constant rate of 18kW and is towing a trailer of mass
500 kg up a hill as in Figure 1 where sinθ = 0.05. At the instant when speed of both vehicles is
9.0 m/s, the resistance to the motion of the car is 300 N and they are both accelerating at 0.30
m/s2. Compute the tension in the tow-bar and the resistance to the motion of the trailer for that
instant.

35. A pulley system shown in Figure 3 below, consists of a 8.0 kg load hanging over a smooth pulley
and a 12.0 kg wooden block is places on a rough table surface.

ii. If the system is released from rest, it will accelerates at 2.5 m/s 2. Determine the

ahead and applies the brakes until the car stops, which exerts a constant braking force of 4000 N.

39. Figure 3 shows an object M which has a mass of 10 kg. If the inclined surface is rough with the
