What’s New pp. 11-15
a) Introduction- The first sample was subjective in nature while the second
one was objective in nature.
b) Body- Comparing sample a to b we can see that sample a is too broad
and all the writers points were already summarized. In contrast to
sample b, which delved into specific parts and characteristics of the
movie that makes it good. This gives sample b a more fleshed out
review than sample a.
c) Conclusion- Unlike sample b, sample a gave a subjective conclusion . He
simply stated his rating and his hopes. Sample b on the other hand,
properly summed up all its points mentioned in its body.

What I Have Learned p. 18
There are various elements that makes a good and balanced review. First is
that it must have fair and balance assessment of the material. It must give a
thorough, in-depth analysis of the content. The author must also have a good critical
judgement. However, this doesn’t mean that you have to be stoic. It must exhibit a
deep sense of humanity and understanding of the human situation even when it
disagrees with the content.
Covid 19 has been ravaging countries for the past year. It is a deadly disease
that is capable of spreading through contact with the particles. Various efforts has
been implemented by countries to prevent the spread of the infection. However, the
Philippine Governments response to the pandemic seems to be lacking.
The government has been under fire lately as Bloomberg released its Covid
Resilience Ranking. With the Philippines ranking 53rd out of 53 countries, it’s no
surprise that people were outraged. Most of the low score can be attributed to the
heavy lockdowns implemented by the government. This heavily restricts travelling
which leads to slow distribution of medicine. These lockdowns implemented are the
result of rising Covid 19 cases in the country. This could have been prevented had
the government closed its borders immediately as soon as it was discovered that the
virus was deadly. It is revealed in an article made by BBC that it took 3 months for
the Philippines to start blocking its borders, which is a stark contrast to other
developed asian countries that started their lockdowns a month or two ago . This
could be attributed to the fact that the President turned down the request of its
people to block its border because the act is deemed xenophobic. Granted that
premature blocking of borders could severe ties with countries involved in our
commercial trading, which could lead to a downfall in our economy; the impact of
the pandemic to our economy right now is not worth it.
Covid 19 is a deadly disease that should have been dealt immediately. The
government acted too late and as a result, the whole country was placed on a state
of emergency leading to lockdowns which slowed everything. All of this might have
been said out of hindsight. We can just hope that the government learns from its
mistakes and improves it’s efforts against combating the pandemic.
