GRADE : Grade 11
SUBJECT TITLE : EARTHSCIENCE
SEMESTER : 1ST SEMESTER
SUBJECT DESCRIPTION : This learning area is designed to provide a general background for the understanding
of the Earth on a planetary scale. It presents the history of the Earth through geologic time. It discusses the Earth’s
Structure and composition, the processes that occur beneath and on the Earth’s surface, as well as issues, concerns
and problems pertaining to Earth’s resources.
EARTHSCIENCE
CONTENT STANDARD :
4.0 EXOGENIC PROCESSES
WHAT IS WEATHERING
EROSION
MASS WASTING
SEDIMENTATION
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS :
The learners shall be able to :
Analyze and make a simple plan showing places where erosion and landslides may pose risk in the
community.
LEARNING COMPETENCIES :
The learners :
1. Define weathering, soil erosion and mass wasting

EXOGENIC PROCESS
are geological phenomena and processes that originate externally to the Earth's surface.
WEATHERING
An environmental forces that influences the continuous breakdown, wearing away and loosening
of rocks and soils.
TYPES OF WEATHERING
1.PHYSICAL WEATHERING- the kind of weathering is also known as mechanical
weathering. It involves the physical breakdown of rock – it does not involve chemical change.

2. Salt Crystallization
• Is the process where water passing through the rocks may be saline, the rock is decomposed by
solution, therefore the crystals put stresses upon the rock as they grow resulting into breaking off
rocks.

Chemical weathering decomposes rock through chemical reactions that change the original
rock- forming minerals.
Factors that affect type, extent and rate at which weathering takes place:
Climate
Rock Type
Rock Structure
Topography
Time
MASS WASTING
• Is commonly known as landslide,
• Mass wasting is generally defined as the down slope movement of a mass sediment and/or rock
mainly due to the forceof gravity
