Math 5 Q2

This document contains a lesson plan for a mathematics class on expressing ratios in simplest form. The lesson plan includes objectives, content standards, learning resources, procedures for introduction, development, engagement, and assimilation activities. [The procedures section outlines group and individual activities where students practice simplifying ratios, including using objects and real-world examples. It also provides a generalization and evaluation through an assignment.] The document ends with reflections and is prepared, checked, and noted by teachers and the school principal.

I.OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson the learners will be able to:
1. express ratios in simplest form;
2. participate actively in group activity/discussion;
3. show care in counting and handling things.
A. Content Standards The Learner demonstrates understanding of the four fundamental operations
involving decimals and ratio and proportion.
B. Performance The Learner is able to apply the four fundamental operations involving decimals
Standards and ratio and proportion in mathematical problems and real-life situations.
C. Most Essential Expresses ratios in their simplest forms. (M5NS-IIi-125)

(Panimula) Strategy: Name Game
Mechanics:
• Pick up a pupil’s name from a pre-prepared basket.
• The one who will be picked will name the ratio of the objects in a given set.

Review
Review the definition of ratio and the two ways of writing a ratio
(colon and fraction form)
Ratio is a comparison between two quantities.
Ratio can be write in two ways; colon form and fraction form.
Ask questions:
Who among you show love for Mother Earth?
In what ways can you show love for Mother Earth?
B. Development Let us read the given scenario.
(Pagpapaunlad)
Strategy: Use Concrete objects or Cutouts to Answer Problem
Opener (Modeling)

Materials: several bottles of soft drinks or cutouts

Joel and Josie went to the park to help clean it up by picking

discarded bottles of soft drinks to be recycled. Joel picked 24
bottles while Josie got 12 bottles. What is the ratio of the number
of bottles gathered by Joel to the number of bottles gathered by Josie in
lowest term?
(Show bottles to the class)
What are given? What is being asked?
If you were Joel and Josie, will you do the same? Why?
In what ways can you help Mother Earth? Cite some ways
of recycling. Why do we recycle?
Present a video about expressing ratios in simplest form.

Simplifying ratios is just the same as simplifying fractions since ratios can be
written as fractions.
To reduce ratios in simplest from, divide the numerator and the denominator of
each ratio by their greatest common factor (GCF)
The term “simplest form” is the same as “lowest term” in ratios and fractions

Activity:
Audrey was so excited to go home after the fieldtrip because she has a lot of
stories to tell her mother. Meanwhile, the school accountant had to stay in school
to submit a report to the school principal regarding the fieldtrip statistics.
Below are the statistics of the successful fieldtrip of the said elementary school:
Pupils 72
Adults 24
Buses 3

What is the ratio in simplest form of:

1. Adult to pupils?
2. Pupils to buses?
3. Adults to buses?
4. Buses to pupils?
5. Buses to people?
Group Activity:
Group 1: Reduce the ratios in simplest form.
1. 21 : 7
2. 8 : 48
3. 15 : 45
4. 4 : 28
5. 36 : 12

3. 2 jeep for 44 passengers
4. 2 teachers to 46 pupils
5. 12 flowers to 4 vases
Directions: Express the ratio of the first quantity to the second quantity and reduce
to simplest form. (Think-pair share)
1. 36 glasses of juice to 30 sandwiches
2. 21 garbage cans to 14 classroom
3. 4 books to ten pupils
4. 15 chairs to 5 tables
5. 22 pencils to 11 eraser
E. Engagement Generalization:
(Pakikipagpalihan) How do we reduce ratios to lowest terms?
Ratios may be reduced to lowest terms by dividing the numerator and the
denominator by a common factor.

Do you have questions?

Evaluation:
Directions: Reduce these ratios to lowest terms.
1). What is the ratio of 10 apples to 5 oranges?
