3RD GP (ACTIVITY #3) : Circuits: Directions

This document provides directions and questions about circuits for a physics activity. It includes 4 problems about series and parallel circuits, providing examples of electrical connections in houses and street lights. It asks the student to cite examples and create a table comparing the advantages and disadvantages of series and parallel circuits.

1. The current flowing in a circuit containing four resistors connected in series is I = 1.0 A.

The potential drops across the first, second and third resistors are, respectively: V1 = 5 V, V2 = 8 V, and V3 = 7 V.

The equivalent resistance of the circuit is R = 30Ω.

Find the total voltage supplied by the battery, and also the current, voltage drop, and resistance of each resistor in
the circuit.

2. You are presented with three resistors, each measuring 3Ω. What is the difference between the total resistance of
the resistors combined in series, and the total resistance of the resistors combined in parallel?
3. What is the total resistance of three resistors, 100Ω, 10Ω, and 1Ω, in parallel?

4. Cite the usage of series and parallel circuits by providing examples like electrical connections in houses and street
lights.

Series and Parallel circuits are the most common type of wiring connections inside our houses to

date. They present a lot of things to humans that made possible new things and made our life

convenient & easy let’s start with parallel circuits – this circuit board type could be used by

appliances or boards or other electric devices that suffice on electricity this circuit does the work by

letting appliances connect to the circuit without affecting the other services within that circuit, this

means independently parallel circuits handle each of those appliances connected with its current

being leveled. That’s why parallel is convenient and safe for most households. As for series that’s

common to buildings and companies because it’s cost-efficient and much easier for them to use the

only disadvantage is that when some linings are damaged or destroyed this’ll cause some part of

that section or wiring, the other devices connected within that section will be disrupted.

Some house or street lights are being worked up by a big parallel circuit so that the brightness of

those lights won’t be weaker if it gets far from the source. But some streetlights ran on some

massive powered type of series circuits.

5. Create a table that shows the advantages and disadvantages of series and parallel circuits.
