Right Triangle

The document provides details of a mathematics lesson plan for 9th grade students on the topic of right triangle similarity theorem. The lesson plan aims to teach students to define and illustrate the theorem, find missing lengths of similar right triangles, solve related problems, and participate actively in group work. The plan outlines objectives, learning resources, procedures including an activity involving paper cutting and group work, and a formative assessment quiz to evaluate student understanding of key concepts.

b) AX  8
c) x  8
d) AD  15

B. Establishing a purpose and Eye Catcher
Presentation of the lesson The class will be divided into five groups.
Five pictures will be display on the board including the original picture. Each
group will choose from the four picture which is similar to the original
picture. They will write their answer in the show me board and those group
who are noisy will have a deduction of their score. A point will be rewarded
to each group for every correct answer.
C. Discussing new concepts Unlocking of words:
and practicing new skills They will encounter the following words while the lesson is going on.
Hypotenuse – it is the longest side of a triangle.
Legs – the legs of the triangle are the longer leg and the shorter leg.
Geometric Mean – the geometric mean of two numbers is the square root of
their product.

Group Activity: Paper Cutting

The class will be divided into five groups. Each Group will have manila paper
and one colored paper. Using the colored paper and pencil, let each group to
draw a diagonal across the page from one corner to another. This creates
two congruent triangles. Cut the paper along the diagonals. Label first the
two triangles with the same name. Then, fold the cut-out triangle to find the
altitude to the hypotenuse of one of the triangles. Along the fold, outline the
triangles and draw the altitude and write the label first before cutting it.
Then each group will study their cut down triangles to complete the
conclusion.

Guide Questions in filling up the conclusion:

1. What kind of triangle that are formed in your paper cutting?
2. What have you notice about the three triangles?
3. When there is an altitude, what happened to the original triangle?
4. Are the three triangles being similar?

Conclusion:
Geometric mean formula:

AD  CD  BD
AC  BC  CD
AB  BC  BD

Examples: Solving the geometric mean.

1. In ABC ,  A is a right angle, AD is the altitude to BC .

altitude and each leg are the geometric mean of the hypotenuse.
F. Evaluating learning Quiz: Problem Solving

1. John always travel a 24.5km distance from their house to school

straight. After class he always went to the basketball court to
north east with a distance of 20km and he always take a shortcut
way after playing basketball. After changing clothes and eating he
went to (east) internet cafe with a distance of 17.32km from
their house and the distance from basketball court to the internet
café is 10km. What is the distance of a shortcut way from
basketball court to their house?

2. At the parking lot of Burger king, the 35.78km to the coffee shop
and the path to the savemore market meet a right angle. Erza
walks straight (north east) from savemore to a mercury drug
store with a distance of 8km and she go back to the coffee shop
from mercury drug store which cover a distance of 16km. The
distance from Burger King to the mercury drugstore is 32km.
How far is Erza from coffee shop to savemore market?
