To be considered an architect both technically and legally in the Philippines requires specific educational and licensing requirements. Technically, one must have a BS in Architecture and complete 2 years (4,000 hours) of apprenticeship. Legally, one must be at least 21 years old, pass the licensure exam for architects, and register with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Philippine Regulations Commission (PRC), and local government for tax and professional identification. Unlicensed individuals can produce plans only under the direct supervision of a licensed architect.

-Local Government for Tax, sedula/CTC, PTR

- An architect who is not licensed can produce plans WITH direct supervision of a
registered and licensed architect

- An architect can take Lamp-sum projects

- The PRC can decide whether you can take the board or not

- An architect needs to be registered with the PRC AND with and IAPOA number

- The relationship between a client and architect is based on trust and confidence

- Whatever information discovered by an architect must be shared

- An architect’s business interest must be divulged in the project

- The highest standard of Professionalism is of one being Ethical

- An architect is the chief of construction

- An architect working for the government can practice profession outside of the area
they’re working for.

- It is ethical for architects to take out a contractor’s license to be a contractor

- The other professional fees is not taken away from your commission

- An architect consultant usually works under the principal architect

- An architect must be a contractor for design build services


- Apprentice hours is 2 years

- Apprentice hours made before graduation is not counted until 2008

- Apprenticeship hours earned before graduation can be counted after Dec 8, 2008
