A Chesapeake School Board member is stepping down, effective May 2.
The school system announced Brittany Walker’s resignation Wednesday, citing her family moving out of the state due to her husband’s employer relocating him. Walker was elected to the board in November 2022 and her term was set to expire in December 2026.
“Chesapeake Public Schools will always hold a special place in my heart,” Walker said in the announcement. “I am thankful for the support I’ve received from our community, allowing me this opportunity to serve. Thank you for trusting me to do this important work. I look forward to seeing the continued growth and success of Chesapeake Public Schools.”
In their announcement, the school system said Walker’s served with “dedication and commitment.”
“Dr. Walker’s educational expertise has been invaluable to the board, and her insights in this area will be missed,” the announcement read.
Walker is a former elementary school teacher and assistant principal. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Kentucky and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Old Dominion University.
