The Mountain West Conference game of the week has the same home as the Tour de France and the NHL.
With the MWC trying to find a TV home for the league’s new all-sports channel, The mtn., a partnership between Comcast and the CSTV parent of The mtn. was announced Wednesday. OLN, which will be renamed Versus in September, will carry the MWC game of the week.
The mtn., which launches Sept. 1, will be available in digital basic packages for Denver-area subscribers. It will be a $9.95 monthly add-on for subscribers without digital converter boxes. CSTV, now a $4.95 monthly sports tier add-on, will move to the digital package.
The actual channel number will be assigned closer to launch date.
The agreement for The mtn. covers Comcast areas in Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. Still to be arranged are agreements with other cable providers in Colorado Springs, Wyoming, Las Vegas, San Diego and the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
OLN is available nationwide.
The announcement came a day after MWC commissioner Craig Thompson said agreements had been reached to air The mtn. throughout half the league’s coverage area, with the rest expected by September.
“The way it is structured, everybody wins,” CSTV Networks president Brian Bedol said. “The conference is getting everything initially promised and more.”
Bedol said there is flexibility in the contracts to determine the game of the week for OLN during the course of the season.
