    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Gareth Taylor to BBC Two:

"I'm really proud of the players, I thought we were immense second half.

"We knew we weren’t great first half and we spoke about belief and faith at half-time and I don’t think the players could have shown any more of that in the second half and we were deserved winners.

"We were fully deserved winners of the competition. Everyone has been magnificent and they deserve this."

On match-winner Caroline Weir: "She scores important goals but she realises the importance of the team and the second half was all about that.

"This gives us massive belief going forward – Chelsea are a very good team they have the edge against us, it’s the first time we have scored against them this season and you have to say we could have scored more."

  5. 'The best team won over 90 minutes'published at 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Chelsea

Speaking to BBC Two, Chelsea manager Emma Hayes said: "First half we did enough without having control of the ball. That is what let us down today, we didn't keep the ball well enough. When it becomes quite transitional, they get the goal in the second half and momentum shifted. The best team won the game over 90 minutes.

"It is easy to make emotional remarks now. When it goes 2-1, then 3-1, it becomes even more open. I have never seen us concede as poorly as we did.

"I thought we were missing a lot of experience and it showed. We are unbeaten against this team 10 times in a row but it was their day today. Congratulations to them."

Now it's Manchester City's turn for the silverware.

The trophy lift and hoorays follow. Beautiful.

Chelsea are serial winners, so for them to lose, they will not be happy. You can see the disappointment on their faces as they go up to collect their runners' up medals.

They will bounce back and they are still in the title race and the FA Cup.

It's an unfamiliar feeling for the Blues, of course, after winning the domestic quadruple last season.

Ellen White's mentality is the strongest part of her game. She has capitalised on a mistake and she has done so well to adjust. It's a poachers' finish.

Manchester City double goalscorer and player of the match Caroline Weir to BBC Two:

"First half we struggled a little bit but second half we upped the intensity and got an early goal which helped.

"I seem to find myself in the right positions at the right time. I was delighted to score and so happy we won.

"We stuttered a little bit at the start of the season but we kept working hard and we worked hard for it today."

The key was Man City scoring early [in the second half]. Chelsea seemed a bit too casual in the second half and they looked a bit slow.

City capitalised and the momentum shifted.

    Chelsea 1-3 Man City

A fourth League Cup for Manchester City thanks to a simply superb second-half display.

They trailed to Sam Kerr's first-half opener but completely turned the game on its head after the break.

Caroline Weir scored twice, either side of Ellen White's close-range finish to give City a first trophy since 2020.

Chelsea's streak of success in the competition, having lifted the Cup the past two years, comes to an end.

Chelsea not giving up, to their credit, but Sam Kerr's cross is easily cleared.

Man City's assured defensive display in this second half has been a complete contrast to how nervy they looked at the back in the first 45 minutes.
