Przedmiotem refleksji w niniejszej pracy będą obrazy życia codziennego w PRL-u, które zostaną poddane analizie na podstawie wydanego albumu zatytułowanego PRL Grażyny Rutowskiej 1 oraz fotografii zgromadzonych i udostępnionych w zasobach Narodowego Archiwum Cyfrowego. Grażyna Rutowska była fotoreporterką i dziennikarką pracującą w redakcjach PRL-owskich gazet: "Dziennika Ludowego" 2 i "Zielonego Sztandaru" 3 . Dorobek Rutowskiej obejmuje 38 tysięcy fotografii (głównie z lat 1963-1988), które autorka przekazała w testamencie Narodowemu Archiwum Cyfrowemu. Fotografie Rutowskiej są świadectwem wieloletniej pracy i podejmowanych przez nią tematów. Należy podkreślić fakt, że były one publikowane na łamach prasy i służyły propagandzie reżimu komunistycznego. 1

Одним з центральних питань козакознавства є ґенеза козацьких традицій. В українській історіографії останнім часом існує тенденція або ігнорувати відповідну проблематику задля уникання моментів, які будуть суперечити певним етногенетичним теоріям, зокрема конструктивізму, або ж, не заглиблюючись і не обтяжуючи себе доказовістю, списувати всі козацькі військові традиції, та звичаєвість на контакти з ранньомодерними турками, татарами й ногайцями. The Warsaw Pact armies invaded the state territory of the former Czechoslovakia in August 1968 in order to suppress liberalisation reforms. The event fundamentally transformed further political, democratising, economic, cultural and social processes in Czechoslovakia. The military presence of Soviet intervention troops resulted in the establishment of special garrisons that became de facto foreign and 'invisible' zones. Zvolen became one of such places where Soviet soldiers operated, worked and lived. The garrison as well as a purpose built residential district for the members of the Soviet army and their families were situated in Zvolen. The objective of this study is to explain in detail whereabouts in the town their presence was (in)visible and to demonstrate examples of situations in which the soldiers, their families and local citizens came into official and unofficial contact. The study is based on archival materials, contemporary regional print and field research.

Siatka wywiadowcza Andrzeja Rudolfa Czaykowskiego ps. „Garda” była jedną z największych powojennych komórek szpiegowskich wywiadu emigracyjnego rozbitych przez komunistyczny aparat bezpieczeństwa. Kluczową rolę w zaangażowaniu Czaykowskiego w misję wywiadowczą na terenie kraju odegrał ówczesny minister obrony narodowej, a zarazem szef spraw wewnętrznych w emigracyjnym rządzie Tadeusza Tomaszewskiego gen. Roman Odzierzyński.

„Garda” rozpoczął swoją misję dnia 29 lipca 1949 r. wraz z nielegalnym przybyciem do kraju na pokładzie samolotu rejsowego z Londynu. Wkrótce po przylocie do Polski zorganizował sobie lokum (w krakowskim mieszkaniu przy ul. Łobzowskiej 43), z którego zarządzał coraz bardziej rozrastającą się siatką współpracowników i informatorów. Czaykowki był o tyle w komfortowej sytuacji, iż nie musiał od podstaw budować sieci współpracowników, ponieważ swoją działalność wywiadowczą oparł głównie na członkach Polskiego Towarzystwa Teozoficznego, w tym na swojej najbliższej rodzinie – teozofkach, które w czasach okupacji działały w organizacjach Polskiego Państwa Podziemnego. Założone w 1921 r. Polskie Towarzystwo Teozoficzne było oficjalną filią międzynarodowej organizacji – Towarzystwa Teozoficznego, utworzonego w 1875 r. z inicjatywy charyzmatycznej i kontrowersyjnej rosyjskiej szlachcianki Heleny Pietrowny Bławatskiej. Było to także największe pod względem liczby członków stowarzyszenie o charakterze inicjacyjnym w tamtym czasie.

Podczas swojej misji Czaykowski pozyskiwał informacje od byłych wojskowych: przedwojennego oficera – płk. Ludwika Zycha członka Polskiego Towarzystwa Teozoficznego oraz szefa Sztabu Departamentu Wojsk Ochrony Pogranicza w latach 1945–47, czy pośrednio od kpt. Jerzego Łyżwy – zięcia Zycha i członka Głównego Zarządu Informacji oraz osób umiejscowionych blisko ośrodków władzy, takich jak żona samego komunistycznego premiera Józefa Cyrankiewicza – Nina Andrycz. Informatorzy z kręgów cywilnych oraz wojskowych dostarczali współpracownikom „Gardy” informacji na temat: struktury, organizacji i działalności PZPR; transportu; przemysłu; nastrojów społecznych; stosunków państwo-Kościół czy działalności podziemia antykomunistycznego. Zgromadzone dane stały się podstawą ok. 100 krótkich notatek oraz 14 obszerniejszych raportów przesyłanych przez Czaykowskiego, oraz jego współpracowników za pomocą pisma utajonego i zdjęć ukrytych w specjalnie przygotowanych do tego celu książkach. W późniejszym okresie korzystano z systemu zorganizowanych „martwych skrzynek” na cmentarzach. Poprzez te skrytki zostały mu wysłane radiostacje nadawczo-odbiorcze, mające mu w przyszłości służyć do bezpośredniego kontaktu z Londynem, a których ostatecznie nie zdążył on wykorzystać.

Do rozbicia działalności „Gardy” przyczynił się Jan Miler marynarz Polskiej Marynarki Handlowej, współpracownik wywiadu emigracyjnego, który został pozyskany przez przedwojennego oficera „dwójki” rezydującego w Londynie mjr Rudolfa Plocka, który w 1951 r. przejął techniczną stronę kontaktu z Czaykowskim To właśnie poprzez Milera, który był jednocześnie współpracownikiem MBP, jako agent o pseudonimie „Robert”, były przesyłane radiostacje. Dzięki donosom „Roberta” komunistyczny kontrwywiad wpadł na trop działalności siatki wywiadowczej.

Do aresztowania „Gardy” oraz jego współpracowników doszło w dniach 12 i 13 sierpnia 1951 r. na terenie Krakowa i Warszawy. W kolejnych dniach, w wyniku przesłuchań Czaykowskiego, oraz członków jego siatki sukcesywnie dokonywano zatrzymań podejrzanych, oraz informatorów. W związku ze „wsypą” aresztowano ponad 90 osób, część z nich zwolniono, innych skazano na wieloletnie kary więzienia. Proces Czaykowskiego się przed w Warszawie. 19 marca 1953 r. sąd pod przewodnictwem niesławnego ppłk Mieczysława Widaja skazał „Gardę” na karę śmieci. Wyrok został utrzymany wyrokiem Najwyższego Sądu Wojskowego w Warszawie z 31 sierpnia 1953 r. Rada Państwa nie skorzystała z prawa łaski. 10 października 1953 r. strzałem w tył głowy wykonano wyrok na dziedzińcu więzienia mokotowskiego w Warszawie.

Celem niniejszej pracy jest przedstawienie działalności sieci wywiadowczej w warunkach stalinowskiej Polski, kraju, w którym inwigilacja obywateli przez aparat służb osiągnęła niespotykaną dotąd skalę. Praca stara się odpowiedzieć na pytanie, czy zbieranie informacji dotyczących PRL poprzez działalność wywiadowczą było możliwe. Kolejnym zagadnieniem badawczym jest pytanie o skuteczność oraz uzasadnienie wysyłania agentów wywiadu zza granicy w celu pozyskiwania danych wywiadowczych. Zgodnie z ustaleniami przedstawionymi w niniejszej dysertacji wynika, że polskie ośrodki emigracyjne nie były wystarczająco przygotowane, aby zapewnić swoim agentom bezpieczne warunki do prowadzenia tego typu ryzykownej działalności w tak trudnym środowisku jak powojenna Polska.

Artykuł dotyczy działalności koadiutora wileńskiego Józefa Stanisława Sapiehy na sejmikach wileńskim, smoleńskim i starodubowskim za panowania Augusta III. Ujawniono kluczowe znaczenie Józefa Stanisława Sapiehy na tych sejmikach w Wilnie. Artykuł pokazuje, że udział koadiutora wileńskiego na sejmikach wileńskim, smoleńskim i starodubowskim przybierał różne formy: bezpośredniego udziału, przygotowywania wyborów lub zakończenia sejmiku, łączenia rywali w celu wyboru posła lub posła, zadowalania protestującej szlachty i formułowania instrukcji sejmowych. Józef Stanisław Sapieha nie zawsze wygrywał na tych trzech sejmikach w Wilnie, ale każdy musiał liczyć na jego wpływy. Przeciwnikami Sapiehy na tych sejmikach byli po prostu zwolennicy rodu Radziwiłłów: rodziny Żabów i Abramowiczów, a także Mikołaj Petrusiewicz, Hrehory Gimbut, Stanisław Łopot i Franciszek Tyzenhauz. Często sprawowali urzędy na zamku wileńskim pod wojewodami, którzy byli liderami stronnictwa magnackiego Radziwiłłów. This paper will focus on changes in family structures related to enlisting in the military (as recruits) and leaving the military service (as invalids and veterans). During recruitment, nobility did not leave the initiative only to press-corp officers. Seigniorial officials sought to guarantee a steady influx of the population to the military service, especially by enlisting individuals from lower social strata whose future was uncertain. The aim of this research is to find out if different social classes (farmers, peasants, cottagers) needed to replace a recruit leaving their homestead by hired labour force. Not only invalids, but also other veterans argued about their poor health, frequent diseases and high age in requests for discharge. We will also devote attention to questions of geographical, spatial mobility and escape strategies (by deserters). These issues will be explored using archive materials including lists of subjects, parish registers, land registers and record materials. On the basis of the quantity and quality of extant sources and differences in settlement structure, two South Bohemian areas have been selected for the study: the estates of Protivin and Trebon.

In the autumn of 1943, a three-man delegation of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army arrived in Budapest. The original idea was to elevate the earlier agreement with the Hungarian occupation troops to a political level, and to hope that the underground Ukrainian state could receive diplomatic recognition from Budapest. This did not happen and events took a different turn. Still, this meeting marked the culmination of Hungarian–Ukrainian relations, which had been flickering only sparsely in the first half of the century. In our study, we attempt to explore this hitherto unexplored historical antecedent of the relationship, striving to ensure that our perspective is not determined by the focus on Trianon, not only by the issue of Carpatho-Ukraine.
As far as the parties were concerned, on one side were representatives of the changing Hungarian state, on the other representatives of Ukrainian national radicalism. In the case of the latter, it is mainly the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists, which, alongside Germany, could only organise more or less legally in Poland and in the annexed Carpathian region of Czechoslovakia. This multiplayer system of relations is also the primary context of our study, which only changed from 1941, after the rushing off the Soviet Union. To build a more accurate picture, we have used not only military and secret service materials, but also pieces from the press and public discourse, showing the relationship of Hungarian writers of the time to the cause of Ukrainian independence and Ukrainian national radicalism

At the time of the agreement with the German Third Reich on Soviet aggression on Poland on September 17, 1939, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Moscow was given a diplomatic note declaring that in the face of the “break-up of the Polish state”, the USSR “is defending the Belarusian and Ukrainian population” in eastern Poland. This deceptive version was naively accepted by Poland’s Western Allies, who pretended that Moscow was not hostile against Poland. They explained that they did not want to enhance, but rather to overthrow the German-Soviet alliance. The highest authorities of the Republic of Poland were charged with inconsistence and did not declare a state of war between Poland and the USSR as of September 17, 1939. This was a game of slander and the author documented the will of the parties to bring such charges. In the period of the Polish People’s Republic, the myth of so-called justified Soviet intervention in 1939 was perpetuated. Today, too, this issue remains not entirely clear for many politicians, historians and journalists. This text analyses the formation of this myth, showing its political ground for various propaganda and proclamations of Western states, and ambiguous attitudes of Polish politicians, especially focused on the very naïve and politically dependent General Sikorski, the Commander-in-Chief and Prime Minister, with greater responsibility than the ruling party of the Second Polish Republic for the false opinions about Polish-Soviet relations in September 1939.

Little is known and studied of the military personal records of Karol Wojtyła from the Kriegsarchiv in Vienna, which would allow an accurate account of his curriculum vitae and map out the main steps in the course of his military service. Analysis of the above records leads to the conclusion that Karol Wojtyła Sr., John Paul II’s father, was for 18 years a professional soldier in the service in the Austro-Hungarian Army, in the 56th Infantry Regiment called the Wadowice Regiment. Later he became an officer in the Polish Army in the reborn Republic of Poland. Throughout his military service he enjoyed a very good reputation and his superiors described him as diligent and honest, valued for his ability to communicate in German.

Throughout his military career, Jacek Boratyński served in one formation – the winged hussars (husaria). Between 1666 and 1676, he was a companion (towarzysz) in two hussars’ banners (companies): initially in one of Aleksander Michał Lubomirski, Voivode of Krakow, then after 1668 in that of Jan Sobieski, Grand Marshal and Grand Crown (Polish) Hetman (since 1674 King John III). In 1676 he became lieutenant in the hussars’ banner of Jan Gniński, Voivode of Chełmno (since 1682 Crown Vice-Chancellor). In this capacity, as an officer of Polish lancers, he took part in Gniński’s mission to Istanbul (1677–1678) and in the relief operation of Vienna in 1683. He was part of the group of soldiers that were under patronage of Grand Crown Hetman Stanisław Jabłonowski. Between 1676 and 1696 (exact date unknown), Boratyński was one of the commanders in charge of the hetman’s cavalry regiment (pułk). Thanks to military service and patronage, especially of Gniński, he received land office ranks: first Cupbearer (cześnik) of Sanok, then Deputy Cupbearer (podczaszy) of Żydaczów. His military service offers a perfect benchmark for biographical studies of other crown officers of the same rank.

Since the foundation of their order, the Jesuits exerted a huge impact on the Catholic Church in Poland. They introduced the reform adopted at the Council of Trent to stop the spread of Protestantism. The Society gave the world many mystics, great theologians, missionaries, saints, and priests. One of them was Father Kasper Drużbicki, theologian, ascetic writer, preacher, and administrator. His numerous theological works include a treatise on the shortest path to Christian perfection, which is the fulfillment of God’s will. Drużbicki’s treatise was intended not only for those in consecrated life but also for those in secular life who strive toward sainthood.

Entries made in the Płock magistrates’ book between 1489 and 1517 mention a total of nineteen clergymen, who were primarily associated with the local church environment. Evident in these entries is the clergy’s involvement as arbitrators in legal disputes. They are also mentioned as executors of testaments or recipients of legacies, parties in deeds of sale, holders of deposits, and prudent stewards of church property. Entries in the Płock magistrates’ book involving the local clergy seem to indicate that that the representatives of the Catholic Church were greatly trusted and esteemed by the local community.

The paper examines the primary iconography of the interior design of the Church of the Resurrection in Rome, located in via San Sebastianello 11, reconstructed thanks to the archival materials. The interior of the church of the Resurrectionists in Rome was consecrated on November 5th, 1889, during the time of partitions and the lack of representation of the temple of the Polish nation in the Eternal City. The church until the 1979 renovation had a homogeneous decoration in the historicizing trend, which was bound together by polychromy in the type of "carpet polychromy" (Tapisseriemalerei), capturing the most semantically significant elements of decoration -stained glass windows and historical paintings. Iconography in the chancel referred to the Resurrection and the role of the Church in delivering this message. On the axis of the apse there was a stainedglass window with an image of the Risen Christ, flanked by two stained glass windows with representations of Immaculata and St. Joseph, whose cults were promoted in the Church by Pope Pius IX. The stained-glass windows also included the coats of arms of Pope Leo XIII and the founders. The main altar: a mensa from 1775, from the former church of St. Paul the First Hermit of the Pauline Fathers (formerly the Polish temple), over a wall-mounted canopy whose founder was Father Władysław Czartoryski, with an image of Our Lady of Częstochowa. The triumphal arch on the pillars framing the altar featured painted figures of St. Stanislaus and St. Sebastian, and on top of the chancel arch was an image of the Vernicle. Above the stalls there were figural paintings relating to the handing down the mission in the Church during various historical moments: The Ascension by Henryk Siemiradzki (on the south side) and The First Vows of the Resurrectionists and the Approval of the Congregation by Pius IX by Józef Unierzyski, enframed in a wooden frame with the coats of arms of Popes Gregory XVI and Pius IX. In the window area above it, there was the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Poland, while in the successive spans of the nave there were the coats of arms of Cardinal Mieczysław Ledóchowski and the Lithuanian Pogoń. Analiza artykułów publicystycznych (w tym głównie oświadczeń redakcji) przybliża polityczną linię pisma i stosunek „Kultury” – najważniejszego środowiska emigracyjnego – do istotnych zjawisk w pierwszych latach ostatniej dekady PRL: kierunków działania opozycji w Polsce, stanowiska i roli Kościoła katolickiego w obliczu społecznej kontestacji systemu komunistycznego oraz postaw i konsekwencji, jakie miało dla środowisk dysydenckich wprowadzenie stanu wojennego.

This paper aims to frame a discussion on the philosophy of the city within the context of cognitive sciences. In the first part of the paper, we will outline the double shift from a linguistic and ocularcentric account towards a sensorimotor one; then we will defend the idea that the less you refer to language and ocularcentrism in handling the urban dimension, the better phenomena can be understood and described. More generally, we argue that the most intriguing conceptual contaminations between cognitive sciences and urban philosophies, as well as the best approach in designing and planning cities, have become attainable because of the marginalisation of language-inspired models of cognition and ocular imperialism in favour of other aspects of our phenomenal consciousness, like emotions, habits, and sensorimotor attitudes.

The  article  undertakes  an  analysis  of  the  tradwife  movement  as  a  contem-porary socio-political phenomenon closely linked to right-wing ideology. In the context of the growing popularity of the movement, the text explores how trad-wives use social media to formulate and spread beliefs based on conspiracy nar-ratives contextualizing gender ideology as a threat to Christianity and the insti-tution of the family. The tradwife movement is placed in the broader context of extreme and populist right-wing movements, which together produce a coherent narrative about the need to defend traditional values from attack by creating an ideological order in which a conspiratorial vision of reality becomes the founda-tion of political mobilization. The role of tradwives is shown as part of a broader strategy  to  push  extreme  ideas  into  the  mainstream,  while  highlighting  their  crucial role not only in demonizing the enemy, but also in offering an alternative to modernity by idealizing their own way of life.

Interpersonal contacts of Old Polish traveling clergyman in the 18th century

The text presents different types of interpersonal contacts in the course of the journey based on Polish clergymen’s travel reports from the 18th century. The clergy establish numerous contacts primarily with other encountered travelers of their state. Also, information about meetings with peregrines and people on subsequent stages of the journey can be found. Interesting, contacts include Poles and important people of that time. It is important to em -phasize the assertiveness of clergy travelers and their openness towards representatives of foreign nations.

Chapels of St. Casimir and the Immaculate Conception at the Vilnius Cathedral as seen by Carmelite nuns – unrecognised source from 1638

The article recalls a source from 1638 which has hitherto not been referred to in the subject--matter literature, concerning the history of two chapels at the cathedral in Vilnius: the chapel of St. Casimir founded by King Zygmunt III, and the chapel of the Immaculate Conception which was furnished as a burial chapel by Bishop Eustachy Wołłowicz (lit. Eustachijus Valavičius). The source is a diary from travels from Lublin to Vilnius (14 November – 26  December 1638) written by Carmelite nuns when going to a  new monastery founded by Stefan Pac (lit. Steponas Pacas) and his wife Anna Maria Ancilia née Rudomina–Dusiacka (lit. Ona Marija Ancilia Rudomina-Dusiackaitė). The memoirs were written by a nun, Mary Magdalene (Anna Żaboklicka) who described various aspects of their journeys as well as a visit to the Vilnius Cathedral organised by the Pac family. The nuns were particularly impressed by the chapel of St. Casimir. Thanks to the fact that the nun described the chapel in detail, it was possible to reconstruct the subjects of some paintings by Bartłomiej Strobel, and to    additionally interpret several facts connected with the appearance of the altar with the reliquary of St. Casimir. Even though the description of the chapel of Bishop Eustachy Wołłowicz is not as detailed, it should be underlined that by inviting the nuns there, the Pac family wanted to emphasise their kinship with the monarch of Vilnius, who was commonly highly regarded.

Araştırmamıza konu olan Ferah Ali Paşa’nın Vali olarak atandığı Soğucak’ın da içinde yer aldığı Kuzey Kafkasya, doğrudan Kırım Hanlığı idaresinde olduğu için hanların bölge ve kalelerle ilgili her türlü talepleri Osmanlı Devleti tarafından olumlu karşılanmış ve yerine getirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Osmanlı-Rus savaşı sonunda imzalanan 1774 Küçük Kaynarca antlaşması ile elde ettiği kazanımlar sayesinde özellikle Kırım’ın sözde bağımsızlığının kabul edilmesi ile Rusya, Kafkasya’da daha etkin ve aktif bir şekilde ilerleme imkânı bulmuştur. Osmanlı Devleti ise Rusya’nın yayılma faaliyetleri karşısında Kafkasya’da savunmayı güçlendirmek için yapılan askeri faaliyetlerinin yanı sıra bölge halkının kendisine gönüllülük esası ile bağlı olması ve Ruslara karşı ortak hareket edilmesi için yeni çözümler üretmeyi amaçlamıştır. Bu doğrultuda Kafkasya halkları ile manevi yönden bağ kurmaya yönelik politikalar yürütülmüştür. Bu bağlamda bölgeye gönderilen valiler içerisinde dindar kimliği, cömertliği, güvenilirliği ve sabrı ile öne çıkan Ferah Ali Paşa halkın geleneklerine, yaşam tarzlarına saygı duymuş, evlilik yoluyla ve hediyelerle onların güvenini kazanmış, böylece onların Osmanlı Devleti’ne bağlılığını artırmış, aynı zamanda halk arasında İslamiyet’in yayılmasını sağlamıştır.

„Arbitrors and not only...”. Clerics on the pages of the assessors book of the city of Plock in the years 1489-1517

There are nineteen clerics on the pages of the Plock’s book of assessors in the years 1489-1517. There were primarily associated with the local church environment. Their involvement as arbiters in conflicts is evident; they are also present as the executors of the testaments or the addressee of testament legate, the contractors of acts of buy-sell, the holders of deposits or prudent guardians looking after goods of the Church. The inscription in the Plock’s book of assessors in which we see the clergy, lead to the conclusion that the local representatives of the Church enjoyed trust and authority among the local people.

Basing itself on Polish and US archival documentation, this article presents Polish espionage under the cover of the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission (NNSC) established by the Armistice Agreement signed in Panmunjom on 27 July 1953. The paper indicates that Polish espionage on South Korean soil had a meaningful impact on the political and military situation on the Korean Peninsula between the summer of 1953 and the late spring of 1956. Moreover, it argues that, in the specific political realities, the Polish espionage issue was used by both South Korea and the United States to curb NNSC functions.

Praca poświęcona jest Walerii Tarnowskiej (1782–1849), niezwykłej kolekcjonerce sztuki, której działalność przyczyniła się do powstania Kolekcji Dzikowskiej – jednej z najważniejszych prywatnych kolekcji sztuki w dawnej Galicji. Kolekcja odzwierciedlała zarówno pasję, jak i wykształcenie Walerii oraz jej szerokie kontakty w świecie artystycznym. Swoją pasją zaszczepiła męża – Jana Feliksa Tarnowskiego, z którym wspólnie podążali (w przenośni i dosłownie) szlakiem sztuki. To jej wybory kolekcjonerskie stały się zalążkiem zbiorów dzikowskich. Jak na kolekcjonerkę przystało często gościła w pracowniach artystów, żywo uczestnicząc w dyskusjach na temat sztuki zaskarbiając sobie tym samym ich przyjaźń. Hrabina gromadziła różnorodne dzieła – od malarstwa i rzeźby, przez grafikę i miniatury po elementy wyposażenia wnętrz i wykopaliska archeologiczne. Pozostawiła po sobie pamiętniki, które do dziś są źródłem wiedzy o ówczesnych realiach artystycznych i społecznych. Waleria Tarnowska była wybitną przedstawicielkę kobiecego kolekcjonerstwa, której działalność łączyła sztukę, edukację i patriotyzm, a Kolekcja Dzikowska pozostaje ważnym elementem polskiego dziedzictwa kulturowego. Stworzyła Waleria własne, prywatne muzeum, którym zawiadywała, inwentaryzowała i dbała o jego bezpieczeństwo. Fakt, że kolekcja, pomimo różnych zawirowań, nadal istnieje a zamek został przekształcony w Muzeum sprawia, że Walerii trzeba oddać należyty szacunek.

Its publisher is the Educational Projects Society (Towarzystwo Projektów Edukacyjnych), and its co-publisher is the Adam Mickiewicz Institute (Instytut Adama Mickiewicza). It addresses important and topical yet insufficiently known aspects of Polish-Jewish relations in the twentieth century. The authors should be commended for undertaking this task, all the more so because the publication is not addressed solely to Polish-speaking readers, as is usually the case with albums of this kind, but to a much wider audience. It is yet another noteworthy contribution related to the history of General Władysław Anders's army, which could be observed in recent years. 1

This study investigates how Mary, through her apparitions, provides spir­itual support within a cultural context. By analyzing biblical episodes—such as Mary’s inter­vention at the wedding at Cana and her visit to Elizabeth—it becomes evident that during her earthly life, Mary was attuned to the needs of others and intervened in ways that were both subtle and effective. These patterns of action are then examined in relation to con­temporary Marian apparitions in specific cultural contexts: Guadalupe (Mexico), Kibeho (Rwanda), and Gietrzwałd (Poland). This interdisciplinary study explores how these ap­paritions reflect Mary’s care for people, particularly during the colonial period, when she adapted her messages to local cultures and languages. In doing so, Mary offered spiritual comfort and guidance, addressing the injustices of colonization. By examining Mary’s role as a protector in times of crisis, this work underscores her contribution to alleviating the effects of colonial violence, supporting local communities, and facilitating the integration of Christianity with indigenous traditions. Finally, the study explores Mary as a symbol of hope and renewal, offering resilience in the face of both historical and spiritual challenges.

Przedstawiamy wyniki badań nad samoidentyfikacjami uczestników i uczestniczek rolniczycch marszy i blokad z końca 2023 roku¹. Rekonstruujemy tożsamości zbiorowe polskich rolników uczestniczących w protestach. W badaniu posłużyliśmy się techniką wywiadu narracyjnego (Schütze 2012). W analizie skupiamy się przede wszystkim na tym, w jaki sposób postrzegają samych siebie badani rolnicy i rolniczki, uwzględniając rolę kontekstów: ekonomicznego, politycznego oraz społecznego. Próbujemy odpowiedzieć na pytania, czy i jakie procesy oraz wydarzenia ma-ją kluczowe znaczenie dla motywów ich działania. Zwracamy przy tym też uwagę na znaczenie kryzysów (Covid-19, wojna w Ukrainie) (zob.Carey, Murphy, Alexandra 2021; Bilali, Hassen 2024) i ich wpływ na strategie działania protestów rolniczych oraz argumentację badanych.
