India Vehicles Sales

India Vehicles Sales boomed in December fueled by consumers fear from the end of excise duty and on carmakers announcement for price hike starting the 2015. Maruti, Kia and Honda at all-time record sales.

In December 2014 according to data collected by Focus2move Research Team through local operators and SIAM, the Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers, total new Car Passengers sold in India have been 209.743, up a huge 20.0% from the correspondent month last year.

Full Year 2014 sales in India have been 2.556.000, up 3.5% from the 2013.

In December the demand was pushed by news arrived from the government that will discontinue excise duty while several carmakers even announcing expected price hikes in the range of 4-6 percent from January. Dealerships reported a really buyers rush while the risk is a market fall in the next quarter.

Keeping the momentum, Maruti Suzuki posted a new astonishing performance compared with the previous year, with sales at 106.421 vehicles, +22.9%. Market share was 42.3%. Full Year Maruti was have been 1.250.000, new all-time record with an amazing over 40% market share.

At a lower speed Hyundai, second with 32.504 sales in December, +14.7%. In the full year sales were 411.476, +8.3% with share at 13.3%.

Mahindra & Mahindra was third with 29.280 units in December and 206.338 in the year.

The hero of the year was Honda that in December confirmed the huge impact received by new models launch with a +162.7%. In the full year Honda sold a record 179.788 vehicles.

In December many players posted strong increase, like Tata, Volkswagen and Audi. Others struggled losing in double digit, as Ford, Chevrolet and Skoda.

As far as the Car Groups performance and ranking the leader was Suzuki/Maruti with 46.8% of market share, ahead of Hyundai Group with 15.5% and Mahindra& Mahindra with 8.1%.

As far as Best-selling models performance and ranking, Maruti Alto led the list with 22.296 sales (+22.9%), followed by Swift (17.410 units, +3.7%) and Dzire (17.202, +11.5%).
