Dear Visitors,
Spring is flourishing on our campus, and so is the Museum's program of
exhibitions and special events. Herod the Great: The King's Final Journey –
the most ambitious archaeological exhibition in our history and the world's
first ever to focus on King Herod's achievement as an imperial regional leader in Roman times – continues to draw record-breaking crowds. Ahead are also
a number of exciting new exhibitions across all of our wings. "I am Gabriel":
A Scroll in Stone from the Time of Herod offers a counterpoint to Herod's earthly
Jerusalem, with its depiction of the heavenly Jerusalem of Second Temple time.
Seven Winters presents a solo exhibition by internationally recognized Israeli artist Yehudit Sasportas; Displaced Visions: Emigre Photographers of the 20th Century explores the pioneering work of European photographers displaced by
the trauma of World War II; and Mapping the Holy Land showcases cartographic
treasures recently gifted from the collection of Trevor and Susan Chinn.
We thank all of you for your ongoing support, without which none of this
richness would be possible, and we look forward to seeing you and your
families at the Museum in the weeks and months ahead.

Displaced Visions: Emigre
Photographers of the 20th Century
From May 28
Many of the 20th century's key figures in
photography, such as Andre Kertesz, Brassai,
Bill Brandt, Man Ray, and Robert Frank
among others, were immigrants... This exhibition
explores how this affected their vision and
creativity while also promoting the evolution
of the photographic vernacular in general.

ArTricks
From June 2
Optical
illusion – also known as trompe l'oeil –
occurs when there is a gap between the
information that is transmitted to the eyes
and the way this
information is interpreted in the brain... The artists whose works are
displayed in this exhibition do not seek to
depict the world but rather to express their
own ideas about it...
