Russian Nobel laureate
for freedom for the Five
THE winner of the 2000 Nobel Prize for Physics, Zhores Alferov, affirmed on Wednesday, May 3 that the battle to free the five Cubans imprisoned in the United States for combating terrorism is a difficult one, but will triumph because it is just. During a get-together with students at the University of Havana, the Russian scientist spoke out in favor of the release of Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González, René González, Ramón Labañino y Gerardo Hernández.

Alarcón: “The Court has
no alternative but to
annul ‘Charge 3’ against Gerardo”
THE Court of Appeals in Atlanta has no alternative but to annul Charge No. 3 in the case of Gerardo Hernández, because the prosecution itself admitted before that same court that the available evidence was insufficient to convict him, affirmed Ricardo Alarcón, president of the Cuban Parliament.

Post article creates
space for others to write about the Five

FOR people in the United States in solidarity with the Five, the Washington Post article on the case of these anti-terrorist Cuban fighters held in U.S. prisons brings important encouragement, after such a long struggle to win space in the U.S. media. "Just imagine. "Just imagine. I was in Washington this weekend when I bought the newspaper and saw the article. What a surprise!" commented Gloria La Riva, coordinator of the U.S. National Committee to Free the Five (www.freethefive.org).

Cubans Jailed in U.S.
as Spies Are Hailed at Home as Heroes

HAVANA -- European tourists here send home postcards with stamps bearing the images of five faces, known simply as los muchachos (the young men) or los cinco (the five). The faces, usually surrounded by billowing Cuban flags, stare out, larger than life, from factory walls, apartment buildings, billboards.

Free the Five action in Dominican Republic
SANTIAGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.—Five people, handcuffed and wearing prison uniforms, flanked by young people carrying placards drawing attention to a rigged tria, paraded in the closure of the Santiago de los Caballeros Carnival to call for the release of the five Cuban patriots incarcerated in the United States for combating terrorism.

Appeal is issued demanding visas for wives of Cuban militants in U.S. prisons
