Glandula pinealis

E Vicipaedia
Situs glandulae pinealis in cerebro

Glandula pinealis[1] seu epiphysis (Graece ἐπίφυσις 'tuber' ) pars diencephali est. Haec glandula praecipue noctu hormon melatoninum effundit, quod numerum circadianum, i.e. somnum et vigilantiam dirigit.

In quibusdam vertebratis epihysi lucem recipienti est munus numeri circadiani. In primatibus tamen os calvariae transgressionem lucis inhibet. Eo loco numerus circadianus per afferentes ex retina ad nucleum suprachiasmaticum (hypothalami) et ad nucleum intermediolateralem gubernatur.
