The fantasy of making money on the streets has always appealed to the Hip-Hop community, so it is no surprise that a large percentage of rappers talk about moving work in their rhymes. But as we all know by now, most of these claims fall into the “it’s only entertainment” category. On the other side you have those rappers who really were about that life before and sometimes during their Rap days.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Jay Z admitted that his experiences as a crack dealer would teach him important lessons that translate nicely into doing business in corporate settings. “I know about budgets. I was a drug dealer,” he admits. “To be in a drug deal, you need to know what you can spend, what you need to re-up. Or if you want to start some sort of barbershop or car wash — those were the businesses back then. Things you can get in easily to get out of [that] life. At some point, you have to have an exit strategy.”
In another recent rapper admission, Pusha T takes full blame for the drug reference in Rap craze that continues to snowball (of course, we all know Kool G. Rap and album called Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… deserves credit, too). Nonetheless there is still a lot of faking going on when you consider all the assertions made by rappers and their alleged hustler pasts.
So we present 10 rappers who really sold drugs. Please note this is not a glorification–kids don’t do drugs–but more for your clarity so when you favorite trap rapper talking about having papi on speed dial – you’ll be in the know.
Jeezy, no Young, has never shied from his hustler past. Jizzle had a very public relationship with the Black Mafia Family which in turn almost landed him getting indicted with trafficking charges after a witness claimed Jeezy received kilos of cocaine from BMF.

Add Snoop Dogg to the list. A young Snoop served time in the county jail for intent to sell. He was also a noted weed dealer during his high school days where actress Cameron Diaz was one of his loyal customers.
In 1997, T.I. was arrested and charged with manufacturing and distributing crack cocaine and he served seven months in prison. So when he talks that trap talk – he isn’t lying.

The Clipse brothers No Malice and Pusha T had their own individual hustler pasts while growing up in Virginia. Additionally their former manager Anthony “Geezy” Gonzales was sentenced to 32 years for running a drug trafficking ring.

According to clan leader The RZA’s book The Wu Tang Manual, many of the clan members sold drugs amongst other things before landing their deal at Loud Records. Ghostface was even shot in the neck by rival dealers.

The late great Notorious B.I.G.’s flaunted his drug dealer past throughout a lot of his rhymes but he really got his hands dirty. According to Bad Boy Records CEO Sean “Diddy” Combs, the Rap money wasn’t coming in quick enough for B.I.G. therefore he went down south to flip some pies. Thankfully Combs found out about it and sent a plane ticket to get the Brooklyn rapper out of there.

There was a street crew in the Bronx that originally coined the name “Terror Squad” and Fat Joe didn’t get the “Joe Crack” nickname just because his pants were always falling in school. ‘Nuff said?

Before Dr. Dre found him in Compton, rapper The Game was hustling alongside his brother Big Fase 100. The Game would end up being shot on October 1, 2001 when he let some unidentified customers in the dope spot past operating hours.

And probably the most storied hustler to rapper transformation is Brooklyn’s own Jay Z. Hov was a known hustler in the 80’s and early 90’s before he went legit. Thank you, Clark Kent.
