Five Queens youth teams among NYC leagues sponsored by Spectrum

Major internet carrier Spectrum is sponsoring 10 local New York City youth sports leagues as part of a new community-driven initiative. 

Spectrum has entered a three-year partnership with TeamSnap, a youth sports management platform, to support youth teams city-wide.

Five Queens-based teams, Auburndale Soccer Club (Bayside), Big Apple Youth Soccer League (Astoria), Brooklyn Falcons Baseball (Ozone Park), Elmjack Little League (East Elmhurst), and Forest Hills Youth Athletic Association (Forest Hills), are part of this cohort of participating soccer, baseball, and softball teams. 

Southeast Queens man convicted of triple murder in 2022 stabbing rampage that killed girlfriend, her son and cousin: DA

A Jamaica man was convicted at trial Tuesday of murder in the first degree and other crimes for the vicious stabbing deaths of his girlfriend, her son and a visiting cousin during a bloody rampage in June 2022.

Travis Blake, 31, of 155th Street, faces up to life in prison at sentencing following the three-and-a-half-week-long trial. The jury deliberated for just two hours before reaching the guilty verdict in Queens Supreme Court.

JFK Airport contractors arrested for stealing $70K in copper wire after Port Authority sting: DA

Two Queens contractors were arrested by officers from the Port Authority Police Department on Saturday for allegedly stealing copper wire from a warehouse at JFK Airport.

Anildat Arnold, 46, of 114th Street in South Ozone Park, and Vejai Ramsarup, 54, of 214th Street in Queens Village, were separately arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on Tuesday on a six-count criminal court complaint charging them with grand larceny, burglary, and criminal possession of stolen property for allegedly stealing approximately 1,100 feet of copper cable wire valued at more than $70,000. The defendants were busted after they tried to steal an additional 150 feet of wire from the warehouse.

Notorious Flushing squatter sentenced to two years in prison for illegally occupying home: DA

A notorious Queens squatter was sentenced to two years in prison on Friday for illegally occupying a single-family Flushing home and renting out rooms to other illegal tenants in February 2024.

Brian Rodriguez, 36, of 161st Street in East Flushing, pleaded guilty in January to falsely reporting an incident after he forced himself into the house after the homeowner attempted to regain access, then falsely claimed he was a legal tenant facing eviction and harassment. The incident was captured by an Eyewitness News crew and generated national attention.

Burglars steal Mercedes-Benz from parking garage at Briarwood co-op: NYPD

Police from the 107th Precinct in Fresh Meadows are looking for two burglars who slipped into a parking garage at a Briarwood co-op building during the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 25, and drove off with a Mercedes-Benz luxury sedan.

Once inside the indoor car park at The Greenwood at 140-10 84th Dr., the two masked men were seen on video surveillance walking purposefully towards a 2016 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 at around 1 a.m.
