[edit]- (linguistics, history) The form of Middle Egyptian archaizingly used as a literary language after the vernacular language had changed into Late Egyptian, and later Demotic and Coptic.

[edit]Though this term has some currency, the equivalent French term égyptien de tradition is more commonly used by English-speaking Egyptologists.
