Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT. This category has only 1-2 entries. Parent (i.e. Category:National identities) is poorly developed Estopedist1 (talk) 17:40, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per Wikipedia:Overcategorization. This category has been around for a while, but it seems to be a non-notable intersection of characteristics, and there is no associated article to explain it. StAnselm (talk) 15:33, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: WP:NOTDEFINING. This was a relatively small tournament that ran 5 times ever, and it's not a massively defining part of these countries' football history that they won them (the fact there's only ever going to be 4 means WP:SMALLCAT probably applies too). We only have football country winners categories for major international events e.g. Category:FIFA World Cup-winning countries, not for comparatively minor tournaments like this one Joseph2302 (talk) 15:17, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: The "defining characteristic" of this category is having the last name "Havill". After reading some of the biographies this category has been added to, only a few of the biographies indicate a familial relation to others in this category. Often, it seems this has just been randomly added to people with the last name "Havill" (with no indication they are part of the same "family"). The category could just as well have been titled "people with the last name Havill", which would be better served by a disambigiation page, not a category. Nominator's rationale: These only contain one page each, so are not useful for navigation. Some pages are in more than one, so only 3 articles are in these 5 categories. Merge as WP:SOFTDELETE, i.e. with permission to re-create if more pages are found. – Fayenatic London 11:03, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Reverting to consensus established on 25 Augustus 2015, and heavily purge. The unilatural re-creation of renamed/re-directed categories by Krakkos on 7 July 2018‎ should be undone. I'm proposing Category:Proto-Indo-European mythology rather than Category:Proto-Indo-European religion as a target due to Proto-Indo-European mythology being the main article, so WP:C2D. Nominator's rationale: Another ridiculous language-family-based WP:OR WP:CROSSCAT. Does anyone really believe people who just so happen to speak Indo-European languages have a monopoly on the use of cavalry in warfare? Preposterous. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 07:40, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
PS: Cavalry may have been rare in the pre-Columbian Americas due to the rarity of mountable military animals (e.g. most Maya warfare was conducted on foot), but that has everything to do with biogeography and not because they spoke the wrong language family and thus were incapable of coming up with the idea that you could mount animals for combat purposes. Lots of Chinese, Australasian, sub-Sahara African etc. cultures have employed cavalry since the dawn of civilisation and before contact with Indo-European-speaking people(s). Language family just has nothing to do with it. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 07:50, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Horses in warfare points out The Chinese of the 4th century BC during the Warring States period (403–221 BC) began to use cavalry against rival states. Likewise chariots: Chariots were also used in China as far back as the Shang dynasty (c. 1600–1050 BC), where they appear in burials. The high point of chariot use in China was in the Spring and Autumn period (770–476 BC), although they continued in use up until the 2nd century BC. It's not like non-Indo-European speakers were linguistically incapable of coming up with this idea. Anyway, I've ranted long enough. :) Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 07:57, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
