[edit]About NuclearDesignEngineer
Hello, I'm NuclearDesignEngineer, a career nuclear engineer specializing in nuclear design projects for nuclear power plants. My work primarily involves leading engineering modifications and adhering to stringent standards and regulations for both nuclear and non-nuclear engineering Engineering Change (EC) packages. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Engineering.
In my role as a Senior Nuclear Design Engineer, I support a nuclear fleet, contributing to engineering changes and design modifications through the Standard Design Process (IP-ENG-001). My expertise extends to developing site-specific and fleet engineering standards. I am proficient in configuration, document changes, equipment, and cable management databases and applications, including Maximo, Asset Suite, PDMS (software), CMISDP, and eB Reference Library (similar in nature to Electronic Reference Library).
Education
[edit]I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, which provided me with a solid foundation in mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science, and structural analysis. Following my undergraduate studies, I obtained a Master's Degree in Engineering, with a focus on control systems and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). This advanced degree deepened my expertise in the design, analysis, and implementation of control systems, especially in automation and process control using PLCs.
My graduate studies included rigorous courses in advanced fluid mechanics and fluid dynamics as well as control systems and process monitoring. These courses enriched my understanding of the behavior of fluids under various forces and conditions and equipped me with knowledge on managing and optimizing complex systems in real-time.
Beyond my formal education, I also engaged in academia as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA). In this role, I ran a laboratory and taught several undergraduate courses. Managing the laboratory provided me with valuable hands-on experience, while teaching allowed me to refine my skills in effectively communicating complex engineering concepts and practices. This experience was instrumental in enhancing my leadership, communication, and educational abilities.
Professional Background
[edit]Currently, I hold the position of Senior Nuclear Design Projects Engineer, where I lead engineering modifications for nuclear power plants in accordance with the Standard Design Process (SDP, IP-ENG-001). My responsibilities extend across various engineering disciplines, notably in Mechanical, Electrical, I&C Engineering, and Facilities engineering and involve supporting a multitude of nuclear sites.
My role entails collaboration across different departments, stakeholders, and sites, focusing on the delivery and review of nuclear engineering design products and modifications. My expertise lies in areas including mechanical, electrical, I&C systems & components, Facilities engineering, and a Subject Matter Expert on Standard Design Process (SDP) Engineering Changes and Physical Security and Cybersecurity enhancements / hardening for nuclear power plants (i .e., nuclear security). This also involves the development of engineering standards and procedures to support both nuclear and non-nuclear power generating facilities.
As a Lead Engineer, I am also involved in the development of engineering modifications for the installation of security delay features and other security and cybersecurity enhancements, in compliance with regulations such as 10 CFR 73.55 and 10 CFR 73.54, to safeguard Critical Digital Assets (CDAs), Security Equipment, personnel, and the plant itself.
Part of my role includes reviewing and accepting vendor documents and services, and managing administrative engineering changes for updating field/as-built configurations of plants, which requires a meticulous attention to detail in areas such as measurements, latest revision of documentation, conflict resolution, and the as-found field configuration(s).
Significant achievements in my career include: (1) contributing to the transition to Maximo from Asset Suite, P2E, and PCRS, (2) addressing conflicts in Configuration Management, Enterprise Asset Management, and Design Engineering Process Applications (such as CMISDP), (3) enhancement of existing HVAC for administrative facilities on nuclear sites, (4) disposition and approval of security enhancements for physical security and cybersecurity assets for nuclear power plants (i.e., nuclear security). These contributions are carried out through the Standard Design Process (SDP) and adherence to stringent Fleet and NRC regulations, approved Nuclear Fleet Standards, Procedures, and Processes.
With a strong reputation for detail orientation and problem-solving skills, I have proven myself an invaluable asset in the realm of configuration management and applications, adept in tools like Maximo, CMISDP, Asset Suite, P2E, PCRS, and PDMS. My extensive experience and deep knowledge in the field underscore my commitment and proficiency as a Senior Nuclear Design Projects Engineer.
