It seems inappropriate that several general aviation airfields are listed as "Municipal" when they are privately owned, e.g. 1F7, F69, & 58F. (In fact, Plano and Carrollton officials have been accused of actively conspiring to close F69 permanently, but I digress.) I propose (and volunteer) to add a "Private & Other" category, along with a "Defunct" category for fields like GSW; however, I'd like to open the topic for discussion first. Categories added. Please note that I have removed North Texas Regional (GYI) because it falls outside the Metropolitan Statistical Area; likewise, I have added Majors (GVT) [Greenville] and Mineral Wells (MWI) because they fall within the area. Also, please read the embedded notes within the template before adding or removing airfields. Carguychris (talk) 02:44, 2 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Alphabetical order

[edit]

I was in debate about whether to list Ralph M. Hall/Rockwall under "Hall" or "Rockwall." After some thought, I think it is more logical to list in alphabetical order by municipality, rather than by actual name; this makes it more intuitive to readers who are more likely to know an airport by location rather than by its formal name. Here are the rules I propose to follow:

  • Airports should be listed in alphabetical order by municipality name first, airport name second (if there is more than airport per municipality). Examples: Fort Worth Alliance comes before Fort Worth Meacham; Majors is under "G" for Greenville rather than "M" for Majors; Ralph M. Hall/Rockwall is under "R" for Rockwall rather than "H" for Hall.
  • If there is more than one municipality per airport (i.e. joint ownership), alphabetize by the municipality that comes first in the alphabet. Example: Mid-Way is listed under "M" for Midlothian and not "W" for Waxahachie.

Grand Prairie AFRC

[edit]

Can anyone confirm through sources meeting WP:RS whether any part of the Grand Prairie AFRC is still being used for the operation of aircraft? I'm wondering if it's still appropriate to describe it as an active airfield, or if it should be moved to the "Defunct and historic" section. The runways have been closed for years, but I'm fairly certain that a seldom-used but technically active helipad remained (remains?) on the site. FYI regarding several minor airfields

[edit]

I have PROD'd most of the private airfields listed due to a lack of coverage in WP:SECONDARY sources. I have also proposed to merge 12T in Ferris, Texas, and 4T2 into MCAS Eagle Mountain Lake. In case anyone is interested. Carguychris (talk) 14:18, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
