Old Navarrese or Navarrese Romance was the name of several varieties of Navarro-Aragonese spoken in the centre, south, and east of the Kingdom of Navarre. It was spoken from the 10th to 17th centuries.
History
[edit]Old Navarrese can date back to the 10th century, in which it was originally spoken in eastern areas such as Sangüesa and Sierra de Leyre.[1]
Orthography
[edit]Old Navarrese was written in a variety of the Latin script. Several characteristics of Navarrese orthography include diphthong -ua- would change to -oa- as in goardar, qoarto, and qoal,[2] and phonemes /ɲ/ and /ʎ/ being represented by ynn and ill or yll respectively.[3]
