Old Navarrese or Navarrese Romance was the name of several varieties of Navarro-Aragonese spoken in the centre, south, and east of the Kingdom of Navarre. It was spoken from the 10th to 17th centuries.

History

Old Navarrese can date back to the 10th century, in which it was originally spoken in eastern areas such as Sangüesa and Sierra de Leyre.[1]

Orthography

Old Navarrese was written in a variety of the Latin script. Several characteristics of Navarrese orthography include diphthong -ua- would change to -oa- as in goardar, qoarto, and qoal,[2] and phonemes /ɲ/ and /ʎ/ being represented by ynn and ill or yll respectively.[3]
