In the event of persistent vandalism, administrators are authorized to semiprotect this talk page for a reasonable duration to prevent further disruption.
Are you here because I deleted/reverted something you had contributed? Read me first, please!
More than likely, the reason you're here is because I deleted something you had contributed. Before writing here, why not see if you can answer your question yourself?
  • If your article was speedy deleted, please read the reason in the deletion log. Also note that, while I may have been the one to actually perform the deletion, another editor was likely the one who actually tagged it for deletion. If so, they left a message on your talk page, so please read the information there first. It might be a good idea to have a dialogue with them in lieu of with me.
  • If your article was about a band, please see WP:MUSIC. Wikipedia administrator User:Chrislk02 explains our speedy deletion of band articles in more depth here.
  • If your article was about a company you work for, founded, etc., please see WP:COI. Chances are your article looked like WP:SPAM. Take a moment to think about whether it could be considered advertising.
  • If your article was a joke... no thanks.
  • If I reverted content that I say was unsourced or poorly sourced, please see WP:RS. Verifiability is taken seriously around here.
If your question still isn't answered or your would like more clarification...
  • Post a new message at the bottom of my talk page. If you post it at the top, do something to break the formatting of this page, or replace everything on this page with your question, I will likely ignore and/or delete it. Common courtesy, please.
  • For a new topic, use a headline that's more descriptive than "my article". For best results, make the topic the title of the article. I deal with scores of articles a day, and I'm not going to go hunting for one.
  • Sign and date your entries using ~~~~ or the signature icon in the toolbar above the edit box.
  • Avoid comparisons and provide reliable sources for me to consider. Glib rants that compare your three-piece garage metalcore band to Metallica or that say your website is just as important as Google generally won't sway anyone.
  • Communication that is in ALL CAPS, is barely in English, lacks punctuation, is otherwise poorly worded or incoherent, contains profanity/personal attacks, or generally assumes bad faith will likely be reverted. I have no obligation to respond to anything that I feel does not benefit the project.
Thank you, and happy editing!
Are you here to ask me to perform an administrative action (a block, page protection, deletion, etc.)? Read me first, please!
  • If there is an issue that you feel requires or would benefit from my attention and administrative tools specifically, because we have communicated regarding it previously or you have other reasons to believe I might be the right person to deal with it, please feel free to create a section on my talk page!
  • However, for general requests for administrative actions, it is best to file a report at the proper venue (WP:AIV, WP:RFPP, WP:ANI, etc.) instead of pinging me specifically, for the reasons outlined below.
  • While it may appear that I am active based on my recent contributions, I do tend to jump from task to task here (and between here and the "real world") quite frequently. Thus, even though I may be actively performing administrative work during one short spell, I may not be during the next, instead focusing on another task (either on-wiki or in the "real world").
  • Likewise, if I have a high level of activity at a particular board and have actioned many reports, but not one that you have already filed there, it may be because I do not feel comfortable actioning it: I may not have a full understanding of the context and/or history or actually be involved with the editor/article in some way.
  • That being said, any information you provide with the good-faith intention of maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia, either here or to the relevant noticeboard, is appreciated! Rest assured that someone will act on it appropriately in due time.
Happy First Edit Day!

Because the pop-ups gadget tends to display in the preview the first image within an article that is not within the infobox, I was fooled for a second when the header Gratuitous picture of my wiener appeared first in the preview. Then, of course, opening your profile, the picture of the dog shows up. I really have not laughed so hard at a Wikipedia user's profile in so long! I fixed a typo. The article had "abut", but i fixed it to "about" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.32.78.218 (talkcontribs)

In that sentence ("... [in] British Columbia where its range may abut that of its somewhat larger cousin, the hoary marmot"), the use of abut is correct. --Kinu t/c 21:16, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
Articles for deletion/Deep Knowledge Ventures (2nd nomination)
This discussion has been archived and should not be modified. To comment, please create a new topic at the bottom of my current talk page by clicking here.

Hi Kinu, I see you already nominated articles related to Venture Capitals or Companies, so I take for granted you are familiar with WP:NCORP and the criteria of the Private Equity WikiProject Task Force. Would you be so kind to let me have your opinion about Deep Knowledge Ventures. The AfD discussion has been included in the list of Finance-related deletion discussions. Thank you for your advise.--Ms4263nyu (talk) 11:56, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Kinu: I saw what recently happened during the Afd discussion Panthers/Seahawks. Something similar happened during the AfD discussion on Deep Knowledge Ventures: reference bombing, three attempts of vandalism, and now before the AfD article is completed, the same content is reproposed in a different article.

Briefly, here is what happened.

21:18, 28 April 2020 new account Wisdom2020a removes content from Deep Knowledge Ventures -> Outcome is a partial blanking [1].

21:19, 28 April 2020 Ifnord restores the page.

08:44, 29 April 2020 an editor creates a new article VITAL_(machine_learning_software) using some of the text from Deep Knowledge Ventures beofre the AfD was completed.

Those two pages have surprising similarities considering the short timeframe in which they were created:

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Deep_Knowledge_Ventures&oldid=953745915

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=VITAL_(machine_learning_software)&oldid=953836220

I am the editor who nominated Deep Knowledge Ventures for AfD. But I struggle to understand if I am doing correclty, if I should ignore those coincidences and even worse the creation of a new article before the AfD decision (in which prevailed the delete votes wiht no merges and redirect). What is your advise?

Thank you for your help.

Why are you publishing false information about my father and my family? And why has my fathers wiki page been taken hostage? GChinagliaJr (talk) 11:42, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

Wikipedia provides information that is previously published in reliable sources. Even if you are who you claim you are, and assuming that you are the same as the IPs who have been disruptively editing the article, a subject of an article (or a relative thereof) does not have unilateral authority to delete sourced content if its inclusion abides by policies and guidelines. If you have sources for the information you have provided, please take them to the talk page of the article. --Kinu t/c 21:13, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

This is totally unacceptable and I am thinking about mobilizing legal action against wikipedia at an International rights court. I am a person/scientist in charge of the covid epidemic response in my country and some of the "innocent" comments are malicious ones trying to take advantage of the situation or reduce my role for this national emergency. Greetings. I noticed that you gave XXeducationexpertXX a "final warning for edit warring." Unfortunately, the user has decided to ignore your warning and continued with reverting edits. I was wondering what the appropriate response would be. Thank you. William2001(talk) 21:55, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

Perhaps an extended confirmed protection would be appropriate? However, inspecting the user's contributions reveals similar activities in many other articles. Therefore, a warning or a block on the user may be more appropriate. William2001(talk) 22:12, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
Let me consider what action, if any, is necessary. That user is communicating on the talk page and there is some substantive discussion. However, whether there is consensus is one issue, and whether it is appropriate for someone who is involved such as that editor to determine if that consensus exists is another. Note that I may have to defer to someone else since I am technically involved also. I'll investigate this further and see what the best course of action is here. --Kinu t/c 22:36, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

Texas state highway spurs
This discussion has been archived and should not be modified. To comment, please create a new topic at the bottom of my current talk page by clicking here.

Thank you for improving the lead consistency on the Texas state highway spur listicles. However, I should note that, according to TxDOT, the official name for these highways is State Highway Spur xxx, and Spur xxx is simply an abbreviation that should be parenthesized after the full name. Please keep that in mind if you plan to improve other listicles in this series. Thanks!

Thanks for your note! I went with the "path of least resistance" in that I chose to amend the fewest possible leads to match the majority. Based on the standalone articles on loops and spurs, there seems to be a de facto consensus that the short form is sufficient for the lead, similar to how the state highway articles omit the word "Texas" in the lead. I can't find anything firm in the WP:USRD talk archives, but I'll dig a little deeper. --Kinu t/c 22:40, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
State highway naming on WP has a highly contentious history, going all the way to ArbCom. WP:USSH has the current naming conventions. -happy5214 12:46, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

Looks like this IP is the same person as the account you blocked, going by the message they left on my talkpage. I'm a bit rusty around the edges (coming off a long break), so not entirely sure if that alone is enough to warrant a block for the IP as well. Figured I'd give you a heads-up either way. Emma (chatsedits) 07:07, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

According to the timestamps, I blocked the account at 07:01:16, which was right after the IP posted on your talk page at 07:00:11. If they are the same user, then the autoblock should catch them, but seeing as how they haven't done anything that would suggest block evasion, I'll leave it be for now. I'll keep an eye on the IP's contributions for a bit, though, just in case. Thanks for letting me know! --Kinu t/c 20:37, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for looking for additional sources. I see you've added them to the talk page, so it would be a good idea to start incorporating some of them in the article if you have not already. The next step would be to format the article to be consistent with the Manual of Style; you might get some ideas on how best to do that by looking at other articles about record labels. Not sure what to do but their editing style of always adding unnecessary spaces to File names, to reference names and so on is at the very least problematic. Not sure what to do but I noticed you posted on their talk page as well... Shearonink (talk) 06:08, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

I've left them a more direct warning on their talk page. The unnecessary spaces, introduction of grammatical errors, and changes that contravene WP:ENGVAR are disruptive. They seem to mean well, as I noted here, but having to sift through a edit that is primarily not helpful to find such positive changes means reverting the whole edit is easier, as you have pointed out. Let's see if they respond. --Kinu t/c 07:25, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi there, thanks so much for blocking that vandal. If you wouldn't mind, would you also remove the edit summaries from my report to UAA? [3] [4] Thanks. Igarnish (talk)

Done Feel free to drop me a note if they return. --Kinu t/c 05:20, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

(Leaving comment for anyone watching this page.) The file was orphaned due to vandalism at the target article, which has now been fixed. --Kinu t/c 17:49, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

I noticed you deleted the autobiography at Kawha Yang however the talk page didn't get deleted as well. I flagged it just in case you can't get to it. Hello Kinu. I'm here to ask if you are able to censor these edits ([5] and [6]) made by a now banned user. You recently blocked their former sock account (see [7]) and, while I could be wrong, I believe you also censored their previous inappropriate comments about me. I would greatly appreciate some assistance. Carbrera (talk) 23:56, 4 April 2021 (UTC).

2600:1700:DC00:6D60:6993:3032:7475:3BDF (talk · contribs), who you recently blocked, probably should have their talk page editing revoked. Thanks, Reba16 (talk) 22:47, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Since I've rangeblocked the /64, I've semiprotected the talk page, since they will likely hop to a new IP soon and revoking talk page access would be ineffective. Thanks. --Kinu t/c 22:50, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
OK, makes sense. Thank you. Reba16 (talk) 22:51, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

I noticed you blocked JakePaulBenAskren so I thought I'd bring this here instead of AIV...JakePaulBenAskr popped up a couple of minutes before you blocked the former, spamming the same link. Would it be worth me taking a trip to RFPP? There hasn't been much disruption but it'll only continue as the event is on later today. – 2.O.Boxing 18:24, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

Good catch... I've blocked the other account. I've also gone ahead and semiprotected the article, since you're right that this will likely be a continued spam target until it happens. --Kinu t/c 18:34, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
Marvellous. Thank you very muchly. – 2.O.Boxing 18:36, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

Hello, apologies for the random message. User Finn Sharkey is Chinese!! had been making edits, such as this one before their talk page access was revoked. Is there something that needs to be done about this? I'm not sure whom to ask. --Ashleyyoursmile! 15:22, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know; I've REVDELed the inappropriate diffs. I highly doubt that there is any actual substance to what was posted, but if you feel otherwise (and in case something similar pops up while you're patrolling in the future), following the process at WP:EMERGENCY is probably the best way to ensure that it's dealt with as soon as possible. --Kinu t/c 15:29, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
Thank you very much for looking into it. I'll make sure to keep in mind what you said for the future. Ashleyyoursmile! 15:36, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

Dear Sir,

I am writing solely to thank you. For the following:

1. You blocked someone instantly for trying to add extremely harmful untrue sexual information from a gutter web site which the site refuses to remove. Over the years an "agency" of UK Gov called the Integrity Initiative have sought to completely change my Wiki biography.

2. The last editor who removed the vandalism on 1st which may have been you or another, has left out at the end of the paragraph "Later career" final sentence the words 'of the United Kingdom' as in I worked for the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom. You will see the correct name in the previous sentence.

3. If there is any way that attempted alterations to this biography, which is pretty thin because I have not sought publicity in the media for my work, could be flagged to someone of your stature. There is a small group who have worked for 5 years to blacken my name.

Thank you again, Matthew Gordon-Banks2A00:23A8:983:6D01:B877:5BCE:C25E:A89E (talk) 16:05, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

iDesign

I am considering starting an iDesign article. I see that you may have started one about 14 years ago. What are your thoughts? --CollegeMeltdown (talk) 20:34, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

@CollegeMeltdown: The version of the iDesign article that existed in 2007 (and which I deleted as spam) was about a non-notable website of that name. If the version of the article you intend to create is about a completely different and notable topic, and it is properly sourced, then I see no issue. The title is not protected so you should be able to proceed. --Kinu t/c 21:29, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. Yes, it's a different organization, a significant online program manager.--CollegeMeltdown (talk) 21:41, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Date formats
This discussion has been archived and should not be modified. To comment, please create a new topic at the bottom of my current talk page by clicking here.

Please stop your disruptive edits of date formats on Melody Goodman. The date style was clearly specified in the header template as being spelled out for publication dates but numeric for access dates. You should not be changing this to spelled out everywhere. If your script does not know how to handle this standard and acceptable date format, then you should not be using that script. —David Eppstein (talk) 23:53, 9 July 2021 (UTC)

That's a pretty heavy-handed message for an honest mistake about something I was not aware on my part. Thanks for the information, I suppose. --Kinu t/c 23:55, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
For the record, I was basing my edit on my understanding of MOS:DATEUNIFY, which suggests that "the format used in the article body text" is acceptable for "[p]ublication dates in an article's citations"... of course, this isn't the only option, so I'll leave it be, but calling my edit "disruptive" is disingenuous. --Kinu t/c 00:00, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
Also, given your edit summary here, I'll assume that I did something worthwhile toward improving the article by changing the format to mdy, and that your jumping down my throat for one edit is not something I really need to waste energy worrying about. --Kinu t/c 00:04, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
You're the third long-term editor and the second admin I've had to call out for problematic misbehavior of this script. As you might imagine, my patience on this issue started to fray long ago, especially as the script keeps getting used and nobody seems interested in fixing it or avoiding using it unless/until it is fixed. Your indifferent and unapologetic reply does not give me much hope for a day when I don't have to be so aggressive in defending a format that the guidelines say should not need an aggressive defense. —David Eppstein (talk) 00:10, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
In all fairness, I will apologize for not fully understanding the motivation behind the cs1-dates parameter; my presumption per MOS:DATEUNIFY was that, aesthetically, it makes sense and is within the MOS to have all dates be presented in the same format, hence my change. Perhaps there are some situations in which this is not preferred; for my part, I'll keep an eye out for this when using the script. --Kinu t/c 00:17, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

Back On August 20th you blocked 77.130.148.2 for a week, Now it appears the same ip is back using a different ip address (77.130.149.80) this appears to be block evasion of 77.130.148.2 .

It looks like that 77.130.148.2 and ip address 77.130.148.2 is part of the 77.130.144.0/20 ip range Chip3004 (talk) 15:38, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/77.130.149.80

It looks like Favonian took care of a rangeblock before I could get to this. I'm hopeful that this will reduce the possibility of block evasion, but I'll also keep an eye on the articles this editor seems to be targeting. --Kinu t/c 19:19, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
