ABC‘s hit police drama Will Trent has been renewed for a fourth season at ABC. Season 4 will consist of 18 episodes, sources tell Deadline.
The news comes as no surprise following another stellar season led by Ramón Rodríguez, who plays the titular GBI detective with a complicated personal life and an adorable sidekick, his dog Betty. New episodes air on Tuesdays and via streaming the next day on Hulu.
Will Trent is one of five titles the network renewed this afternoon. The others include a ninth season of 9-1-1, a twenty-second season of Grey’s Anatomy, an eighth season of The Rookie, and a second season of Shifting Gears. They join the previously announced renewed shows Abbott Elementary for a fifth season, High Potential for a second season, and the series pickup of 9-1-1: Nashville.

Based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times bestselling “Will Trent” series, Special Agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was abandoned at birth and endured a harsh coming-of-age in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. Now, he uses his unique point of view in the pursuit of justice and has the highest clearance rate in the GBI.
The series also stars Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood and Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner. Gina Rodriguez joined the Season 3 cast as Marion Alba, Will’s new love interest following his blow-up with Angie, with whom he had an on-and-off relationship since they were kids. Scott Foley is also a Season 3 newbie, stepping in as Seth McDale to fill the empty spot in Angie’s heart.

Deadline’s EIC of TV, Nellie Andreeva, commented on the series earlier this week in her ABC Renewal Status Report: “Will Trent may be ABC’s underrated success story. Now in its third season, the procedural starring Ramón Rodríguez is actually the most watched ABC scripted series in linear Live+Same Day (9-1-1 is second in viewers and No. 1 in L+SD adults 18-49). With its streaming numbers also solid, Will Trent is considered a shoo-in for a renewal, with pickups expected as soon as later this week.”
Executive producers include Liz Heldens, Daniel Thomsen, Karin Slaughter, Oly Obst, Howard Deutch, Ellen Marie Blum, and Rodriguez. Heldens and Thomsen also serve as showrunners. Will Trent is produced by 20th Television.
