কুয়াশা হল ভূমির সংস্পর্শে থাকা মেঘমালা। মেঘকেও আংশিকভাবে কুয়াশা বিবেচনা করা যায়, মেঘের যে অংশটুকু মাটির ওপরে বাতাসে ভাসমান থাকে তা কুয়াশা হিসেবে বিবেচিত নয়, তবে মেঘের ভূমির উঁচু অংশের সংস্পর্শে থাকা মেঘকে কুয়াশা বলা হয়। কুয়াশা আর ধোঁয়াশার মধ্যে পার্থক্য হল এদের ঘনত্বে, যা কিনা এদের ফলে সৃষ্ট দর্শনযোগ্যতার হ্রাস দ্বারা হিসাব করা হয়: কুয়াশার কারণে দর্শনযোগ্যতা ১ কিমির কম হয়, যেখানে ধোঁয়াশা দর্শনযোগ্যতা ২ কিমির বেশি হ্রাস করে না।[১]
পৃথিবীর সর্বাধিক কুয়াশাচ্ছন্ন স্থান হল নিউফাউন্ডল্যান্ডের গ্রান্ড ব্যাংকস, যেখানে উত্তর দিক থেকে আসা শীতল লাব্রাডর প্রবাহ ও দক্ষিণ দিক থেকে আসা অপেক্ষাকৃত উষ্ণ গালফ প্রবাহ মিলিত হয়। সর্বাধিক কুয়াশাচ্ছন্ন ভূমি অঞ্চলের মধ্যে আছে পয়েন্ট রেয়েস, ক্যালিফোর্নিয়া। এবন আর্জেন্টিনা, নিউফাউন্ডল্যান্ড ও লাব্রাডর , যেখানে বছরের ২০০ দিনই কুয়াশায় ঢাকা থাকে। এমনকি এমনিতে উষ্ণ দক্ষিণ ইউরোপের নিম্নভূমি ও উপত্যকা অঞ্চলে ঘন কুয়াশা পড়ে, বিশেষত শরৎ ও গ্রীষ্মে।[২]
