El docudrama escrito y dirigido por Michael Winterbottom y Mat Whitecross trata el suceso acaecido a tres ciudadanos británicos (The 'Tipton Three'), que fueron capturados en 2001 en Afganistán y posteriormente detenidos por el ejército de los Estados Unidos para posteriormente ser encarcelados en la prisión de Guantánamo. Pasaron más de dos años en el campo de detención de la Base Naval de la Bahía de Guantánamo, Cuba. El documental se estrenó en la Berlinale el 14 de febrero de 2006 y se exhibió por primera vez en el Reino Unido en el Channel 4 el 9 de marzo de 2006. Como peculiaridad cabe destacar que fue la primera obra que se estrenó simultáneamente en cines, en DVD y en Internet justo al día siguiente de su primera exhibición pública. En términos generales el documental tuvo una buena aceptación. El director Michael Winterbottom ganó el Oso de Plata al Mejor Director en la edición número 56 del Festival Internacional de Cine de Berlín. La obra también ganó el Premio Espíritu Independiente a la Mejor Película Documental en el Festival de Cine de Sundance. El periódico británico The Times criticó a Winterbottom por asumir como ciertas las razones declaradas de los protagonistas del documental para ir a Afganistán conociendo el contexto convulso y de peligro que se dio después de los ataques del 11 de septiembre en los Estados Unidos. Il relate l'incarcération dans la prison de Guantánamo, de trois citoyens britanniques originaires de la ville de Tipton, située dans les Midlands de l'ouest, près de Birmingham. Tout a commencé lors d'un séjour en Afghanistan, en 2001, où ils se font arrêter par les forces locales, et ensuite détenir par les forces américaines sur place, pour enfin passer deux années dans le camp de détention de la base navale de la baie de Guantánamo, à Cuba. La première a eu lieu au Festival International du Film de Berlin le 14 février 2006, et le film est passé à l'antenne pour la première fois au Royaume-Uni sur Channel 4 le 9 mars 2006. Le lendemain, il devint le premier film diffusé simultanément au cinéma, en DVD et sur Internet. Le film a généralement bien été reçu. Micheal Winterbottom s'est vu attribuer l'Ourse d'argent du meilleur réalisateur, lors du 56e Festival International du Film de Berlin. Le film a remporté l'Independent Spirit Awards du meilleur film documentaire, récompense de cinéma américaine décernée aux films indépendants, lors du Festival du film de Sundance. Le journal, The Times a critiqué Micheal Winterbottom pour avoir validé les raisons de ce voyage invoquées par les trois hommes, qui à l'époque, s'étaient rendus en Afghanistan, après le 11 septembre 2001, à un moment où la situation était extrêmement dangereuse, due notamment à la présence du groupe Al-Qaïda et des Talibans, pour célébrer le mariage de l'un d'entre eux.
