- The Inner Harbor Navigation Canal Lake Borgne Surge Barrier is a storm surge barrier constructed near the confluence of and across the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) and the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO) near New Orleans. The barrier runs generally north-south from a point just east of on the north bank of the GIWW and just south of the existing Bayou Bienvenue flood control structure. Navigation gates where the barrier crosses the GIWW and Bayou Bienvenue can be worked to reduce the risk of storm surge coming from Lake Borgne and/or the Gulf of Mexico. Another navigation gate (Seabrook Floodgate) has been constructed in the Seabrook vicinity, where the IHNC meets Lake Pontchartrain, to block a storm surge from entering the IHNC from the Lake. (en)
- De Inner Harbor Navigation Canal Lake Borgne Surge Barrier (IHNC) is een stormvloedkering die gebouwd wordt in de Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) en de Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet (MRGO) in de Amerikaanse staat Louisiana bij New Orleans. De kering wordt gebouwd op de plaats waar de beide kanalen elkaar ontmoeten. Deze stormvloedkering van bijna 3 km lang moet New Orleans en omgeving beschermen tegen een nieuwe stormvloed. De kosten van de kering, een miljard dollar, werd in 2006 door het Congres goedgekeurd.De kering krijgt twee deuren, bij en de Intracoastal Waterway om onder normale weersomstandigheden scheepvaartverkeer door te laten. De kering is de grootste in zijn soort in de Verenigde Staten, maar kleiner dan de Oosterscheldekering. De dam moet het hoofd kunnen bieden aan een storm die eens per 100 jaar voorkomt. (nl)
