From 2008 to 2009 and from 2013 until 2017, he was a member of the National Assembly, representing the Hauts-de-Seine department. He is also the founder of l'Ame Nord, a non-profit organization dedicated to serve the interests of French residents living in the US and Canada. (en)

Proche collaborateur de Nicolas Sarkozy à partir des années 1990, il est adjoint au maire de Garches (Hauts-de-Seine) de 1989 à 2007, conseiller régional d'Île-de-France de 2004 à 2015, député de la dixième circonscription des Hauts-de-Seine de 2007 à 2009, en tant que suppléant d'André Santini, et porte-parole de l'Union pour un mouvement populaire (UMP) de 2008 à 2010. Dans le gouvernement Fillon III, de 2010 à 2012, il est secrétaire d'État chargé du Commerce, de l'Artisanat, des Petites et Moyennes Entreprises, du Tourisme, des Services, des Professions libérales et de la Consommation. Battu aux élections législatives de 2012 dans la première circonscription des Français établis hors de France (États-Unis et Canada), il est finalement élu lors de l'élection partielle de 2013. Il annonce quitter Les Républicains entre les deux tours des législatives de 2017, lors desquelles il est battu. Il participe à la fondation d'Agir la même année, puis adhère à La République en marche en 2019. (fr)
