Die meisten Filmkritiker fanden Drehbuch und Handlung damals sehr dumm. Das Finale ist amerikanisch glücklich, wenn drei mit Sprengstoff beladene Passagierflugzeuge in letzter Minute von amerikanischen Kampfjets abgeschossen und Terroranschläge in amerikanischen Städten vereitelt werden. Andererseits beschrieben die Kritiker die schauspielerische Darstellung als sehr real. Das Besondere an dem Spielfilm ist, dass seine vermeintlich unrealistische Geschichte in einer etwas anderen Version bei den Terroranschlägen vom 11. September 2001 Wirklichkeit wurde. (de)
