- La 62a Mostra Internacional de Cinema de Venècia es va inaugurar el 31 d'agost de 2005 amb la pel·lícula de Tsui Hark i es va clausurar el 10 de setembre de 2005 amb el musical de . Els participants foren anunciats pel director del festival el 28 de juliol de 2005 a Roma. Les pel·lícules digitals podien competir en totes les categories per primer cop en la història del festival. El cinema asiàtic confirma la seva vitalitat i, amb les obres més importants d'aquest any demostra que ha estat novament capaç de desafiar els efectes espectaculars més intel·ligents de Hollywood. Aquest esdeveniment inaugural del 62è Festival adquirirà així el valor d'un especial homenatge a la producció cinematogràfica de l'Extrem Orient, que ha estat motiu de tal entusiasme en la pel·lícula i la cultura occidentals. El director de pel·lícules animades japonès Hayao Miyazaki i l'actriu italiana Stefania Sandrelli va rebre un Lleó d'Or cadascun per a la seva carrera vital. El Lleó d'Or fou atorgat a Brokeback Mountain. Durant aquesta edició del festival, es va celebrar un Concurs Internacional de Disseny del nou Palazzo del Cinema. El guanyador de la competició va ser 5+1 & Rudy Ricciotti. El nou edifici té com a objectiu albergar la seu principal del Festival de cinema, així com congressos i esdeveniments culturals. (ca)
- The 62nd annual Venice International Film Festival opened on 31 August 2005 with Tsui Hark's Seven Swords and closed on 10 September 2005 with a screening of Peter Ho-sun Chan's musical Perhaps Love. The lineups were announced by the festival director Marco Müller on 28 July 2005 in Rome. The digital films can compete in all categories for the first time of the festival history. Asian filmmaking confirmed its vitality, and with this year's most important works demonstrated that it had once again been capable of challenging the most intelligent spectacular effects from Hollywood. Japanese animated filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki and Italian actress Stefania Sandrelli were each awarded a Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. The Golden Lion was won by Brokeback Mountain. During this edition of the festival, an International Design Competition of the new Palazzo del Cinema took place. The winner of the competition was 5+1 & Rudy Ricciotti. The purpose of the new building is to house the main headquarters of the Film Festival, as well as congresses and cultural events. (en)

- 62. Międzynarodowy Festiwal Filmowy w Wenecji odbył się w dniach 31 sierpnia−10 września 2005 roku. Imprezę otworzył pokaz hongkońskiego filmu w reżyserii Tsui Harka. W konkursie głównym zaprezentowano 20 filmów pochodzących z 10 różnych krajów. Jury pod przewodnictwem włoskiego scenografa Dante Ferrettiego przyznało nagrodę główną festiwalu, Złotego Lwa, amerykańskiemu filmowi Tajemnica Brokeback Mountain w reżyserii Anga Lee. Drugą nagrodę w konkursie głównym, Nagrodę Specjalną Jury, przyznano amerykańskiemu filmowi Maria w reżyserii Abla Ferrary. Honorowego Złotego Lwa za całokształt twórczości odebrali japoński twórca filmów animowanych Hayao Miyazaki i włoska aktorka Stefania Sandrelli. Galę otwarcia i zamknięcia festiwalu prowadziła hiszpańska aktorka Inés Sastre. (pl)
