Rottnest Island Surf Spot Map.
Rottnest Island sits 19kms off the coast of Perth and does a great job of blocking out all the swell from the main city beaches!!! It is referred to as Western Australia's very own Island getaway featuring a casual atmosphere, picturesque scenery and some of the world's finest beaches and bays by the Rottnest Island Authority who look after the place.
The name Rottnest came from "Rats Nest" after the sailors who first discovered the island mistook the Quokkas for big rats.
Ferries run from Perth Esplanade and Freemantle over to the island. It's extra to bring your surfboard. The only way around the island is by bus or bike - Rottnest is a car free zone.
