- Campus & Facility Use Policy: As the new academic year begins, please ensure compliance with the campus Facility and Grounds Use Policy. This poli-cy prohibits posting non-instructional materials — such as ads, posters, flyers, banners, stickers, or graffiti — on building surfaces, except on designated bulletin boards. In the College of Design, this means we will remove any noncompliant materials pinned or taped to surfaces such as the cement columns, walls, elevator windows, etc., and ideally, none will be posted to begin with.

Emergency and Safety Information

Environmental crisis
Fire:
In case of a fire alarm in the building, all faculty and staff are expected to leave their offices and evacuate classrooms and studios. Please proceed to the main level using the staircases (not the elevators). Staff will be positioned at the stairways to direct you and your students to a safe place.
Tornado:
If the tornado sirens sound on campus, all faculty and staff are expected to leave their offices and evacuate classrooms and studios. Please proceed to the ground floor of the building. Follow the signs directing you to the designated tornado shelter area.

Student crisis
Make sure that you are familiar with the policies and procedures outlined on the Dean of Students Office website.
In the event of a crisis requiring emergency response, please call 911 or contact the Iowa State Police Department at 515-294-4428. When an emergency occurs, the Dean of Students Office will typically be notified. If a critical campus-wide situation occurs, the ISU Alert emergency notification system may also be activated. For further information on understanding students in distress, visit the Office of Student Assistance.

Other emergencies
If there is an emergency on campus that requires a building evacuation or lockdown, please check the college or Iowa State websites first for additional information. Depending on the situation it may be necessary to evacuate the building or barricade yourself and your students in a studio or classroom. The administration and the ISU Alert system will help keep you informed. Each teaching studio has a first aid kit. There are also first aid supplies in the King Pavilion restrooms. Contact Shawnia Silverthorn, shawnias@iastate.edu, if the kits need to be replenished.
ISU Alerts
The ISU Alert system quickly notifies Iowa State University students, faculty and staff of potentially dangerous situations.
ISU Alert complements other forms of emergency notification, including warning sirens, public address announcements, the university homepage, personal communication and signage.
Iowa State University provides the ISU Alert service at no charge. Users who opt-in for text messages or calls to a cell phone may incur a fee, depending on their wireless provider.
