Continuing the musical bent of Deadpool 2’s promotional circuit, Ryan Reynolds made a surprise appearance on the Korean singing competition show King of Mask Singer over the weekend. In a shocking twist, he’s actually a pretty solid singer.

In the clip, reports The Daily Dot, Reynolds belts a cover of “Tomorrow” from the musical Annie dressed in a sparkly unicorn mask and matching cape, winning over audience members with a rendition so clear and straightforward it edges into the realm of pathos.

In the equally surreal second clip below, the audience and judges naturally lose their minds as Reynolds reveals himself, apologizes — “I’m so sorry about that song” — and, inexplicably, shouts, “Donald Trump??” (Bless comedian judge Gim Gu-ra, who compliments the actor on his performance in 2006’s Smokin’ Aces.)

King of Mask Singer (or Mask King, as it’s translated elsewhere) follows a The Voice-esque blind format in which celebrities wear elaborately designed masks to compete against one another in a two-episode arc. It seems Reynolds is one of the first Western celebs to appear on the show, but based on the audience’s massive reaction (and subsequent performance online), we’d be surprised if he was the last.
