YOU ASK...
Dear Diarmuid This is a photo of a plant/ weed that is just impossible to pull up out of the ground.
I got a gardener to dig over the ground to get rid of it and I thought he had succeeded until, two months later, these leaves appeared again.
Do you know what it is and how I can get rid of it? It has obliterated all the bedding plants I laid down. Sheila Newton Ilford, Essex Hi Sheila The foliage looks like a day lily, hemerocallis. It produces attractive lily-like flowers, each of which last only for a day, hence the name.
While it is often planted ornamentally, if you don't want it, it can be a bit invasive. Like any perennial weed, digging up is the best method. But if you leave a scrap of root behind, a new plant can grow from this so it may take a few goes and perseverance to eradicate them. Good luck.
Diarmuid
