THE story of a rich Manhattan socialite who falls into poverty will be screened tonight.Blue Jasmine stars Cate Blanchett who plays the role of Jasmine, the Manhattan socialite who has lost everything.
Jasmine goes to San Francisco to stay with her adopted sister Ginger, leaving her old life in New York behind.
Reflecting on the rich yet trying life that she has lost, Jasmine attempts to start a new one, but is constantly drawn back into her expensive habits.
In flashbacks she remembers her past life with her husband Hal, played by Alec Baldwin, who had swindled Ginger's husband's money and was sent to prison for fraud.
Jasmine falls in love again with a wealthy diplomat, who aspires to become a congressman.
She lies to him about her past and as they are on the verge of getting engaged, Jasmine's new love finds out about her web of lies and calls it off.
Blue Jasmine was directed by Woody Allen and was released in the US in July last year.
The film has received many awards and nominations, including a Golden Globe for Cate Blanchett in the Best Actress - Drama category.
Blue Jasmine will be screened tonight at 7pm at the Bahrain Cinema Club, Juffair.
