Excellent ensemble exude energy and enthusiasm; REVIEW.
Byline: Patsy FullerEnsemble 360, Bridge House Theatre, Warwick.
THIS band of energetic young musicians from all over the world have really gelled since they last played in the Coventry and Warwickshire area less than a year ago.
Formed only in 2005, the 10 players simply exude energy, fun - and talent.
They delivered a programme on Sunday that
brought out the best in them all. It began with Wagner's Siegfried Idyll, a heart-wrenching piece complete with key changes to send shivers down the spine. Wagner wrote it as a birthday present for his wife and it was played for her as a surprise by a group of musicians. It's often performed by an orchestra these days so it was good to hear it played by the small-sized ensemble it was written for.
Then came a little-known nonet by Spohr, a
fun-packed piece with an almost circus-like feel to it.
The Beethoven septet which followed was also bags of fun with a delightfully sunny touch. Again the sheer energy of the musicians and their almost infectious enthusiasm was apparent.
They're back in the area playing at the Beethoven and Brahms weekend in Leamington at the beginning of May. Definitely worth watching out for. *****
