Taylor Swift, the pop icon whose every move launches a thousand tweets, was caught in yet another online imbroglio when — very randomly — Damon Albarn, of Gorillaz and Blur, decided to publicly criticize Swift’s songwriting. Albarn, who has since apologized for his comments, had suggested that Swift was a less credible example of a songwriter.

Among the many, many stans, famous and otherwise, who came to Swift’s defense was one particularly notable Swiftie: soon-to-be Chilean president Gabriel Boric.

On Monday, the day after Albarn’s comments were published in a Los Angeles Times interview, Swift tweeted at Albarn, “I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging.” Swift continued, “You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really fucked up to try and discredit my writing. WOW.”

Thirty-five-year-old Boric, who will become Chile’s youngest president, responded to Swift’s tweet. “Here in Chile you have a huge group of supporters who knows that you write you own songs from the heart. Dont take seriously guys that need to insult or lie to get attention,” Boric wrote. “Hugs from the south Taylor.”

President-elect/Swiftie Boric ran his campaign as a socialist, coming from a student activism background. He’s tweeted “I feel #Swiftie” in Spanish; there are photos of him wearing the exclusive Folklore cardigan, and footage of him jamming to Tay-Tay on Instagram Live. And Swift’s not the only woman Boric wants to support: This past week, he unveiled a majority-women cabinet.

For Albarn’s part, he learned his lesson about coming after Swift and apologized within 24 hours after a Swiftie Twitter barrage. “I totally agree with you,” Albarn replied to Swift’s tweet. “I had a conversation about songwriting and sadly it was reduced to clickbait. I apologise unreservedly and unconditionally. The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand.”
