Input Devices

An input device is generally a piece of equipment that sends information to a primary device. Input devices enable the user to send data,
information, or control signals to a computer.

The Central Processing Unit (CPU) of a computer receives the input and processes it to produce the output.

Example: Mouse, Keyboard, Joystick, Light Pen, Track Ball, Scanner, Magnetic Ink Character Reader (MICR), Optical Character Reader (OCR),
Barcode Reader, Optical Mark Reader (OMR), Microphone, Web Cam , Graphics Tablet, Touch Screen

(a) Mouse

(b) Modem

(c) Scanner

(d) Printer

Output Devices

An output device is a piece of computer hardware that receives data from a computer and then translates that data into another form. Output
devices provide data in myriad different forms, some of which include audio, visual, and hard copy media.

The key distinction between an input device and an output device is that an input device sends data to the computer, whereas an output device
receives data from the computer.

Example:

1.Monitor- LCD, LED, OLED, Plasma Monitor, CRT Monitor

2. Printer

Impact Printer

Dot Matrix Printer - A dot matrix printer is an impact printer that prints using a fixed number of pins or wires. Typically the pins or wires are
arranged in one or several vertical columns.

Daisy Wheel Printer - A type of printer that produces letter-quality type. A daisy-wheel printer works on the same principle as a ball-head
typewriter.
Drum Printer - A line printer that uses a rotating drum with raised characters, against which the paper is pressed.

Non Impact Printer

Laser Printer - A laser printer is a type of printer that uses a laser and electrical charge model instead of the traditional printing of ink onto paper.
Inkjet Printer - An inkjet printer is a computer peripheral that produces hard copies of a text document or photo by spraying droplets of ink onto
paper.

LED Printer - LED printers are most similar to laser printers, using a drum, toner, and fuser system to apply coloured or black toner to paper.

3D Printer - Three-dimensional (3D) printing is an additive manufacturing process that creates a physical object from a digital design.

Thermal Printer - A thermal printer is a type of printer that uses a heated thermal print head pressed against a medium to produce black text or
images.

3. Plotter

A plotter is a printer that interprets commands from a computer to make line drawings on paper with one or more automated pens. A plotter is a
machine that produces vector graphics drawings.

Types of Plotters- Inkjet Plotter, Drum Plotter, Flatbed Plotter, Cutting Plotter, Pen Plotter, Thermal Plotter
4. Headphones

5. Projector

6. Speakers

7. Visual Display Unit (VDU)

8. GPS

9. Braille Reader - A braille reader, also called a braille display, is an electronic device that allows a blind person to read the text displayed on a
computer monitor.

10. Sound Card -The sound card converts incoming digital audio data into analog audio so that the speakers can play it.

11. Video Card - Video card, also called graphics card, integrated circuit that generates the video signal sent to a computer display.
