[Prepare Practical File for the lab work in Ms-Excel]


Candidates are requested to answer all the questions using MS-Excel. The
figure is margin indicates full marks.
Importance Instructions:
1. Write your name and roll number on the question paper.
2. Create a new folder on the desktop and rename it with your roll number.
3. Click on Page Layout of the Ribbon, then click on both Print of Gridlines
and Headings. Set up Scale at 75%.
4. Click on the middle icon of view. After clicking on the Click to add header,
type your roll number so that your answer sheet won’t be misplaced.
5. Save your spreadsheet (file) with your roll number in the folder named
with your roll number.
6. Make sure that you should not write beyond the column of the
spreadsheet set under 75%.
7. For each end of every calculation, don’t forget to press Ctrl+S to save
your essential work.
8. You should submit your hard copy (print) with your signature.

Testing of Hypothesis
22. A sample of 100 students is taken from a large population, the mean
height of these students is 60 inches and the standard deviation is 5
inches. Can it be reasonably regarded that the population’s mean height of
the students is 58 inches?
23. The electric bulbs manufactured by X & Y company gave the following
results.

Test whether there is any significant difference in the mean life of the two
types of electric bulbs.

24. The average life of 64 Lead bulbs was found to be 1500 hours with a
standard deviation of 130 hours. Test, whether the sample is from a batch
having an average life of the bulb, is 1520 hours at a 5% level of
significance.
25. The mean marks of 100 students are 65 standard deviation is 10. Test the
hypothesis that the sample is drawn from a population having mean marks
of 67 at a 5% level of significance.
26. The mean and standard deviation of weight from a random sample of 100
students are found to be 55kgs and 12kgs. Test with 95% confidence that
the mean weight of the population is 60kgs.
27. The number of heads after tossing 500 coins is counted as 264, then test
the hypothesis that the coin is unbiased at a 5% level of significance.
28. A sample of 100 students is taken from a large population, the mean
height of these students is 60 inches, and the standard deviation is 5
inches. Can it be reasonably regarded that the population means the
height of the students is 58 inches?
29. Z-test for double proportions
In a certain data of large city, 400 out of a random sample of 500 men
were found to be smokers. After the tax on tobacco has been heavily
increased, another random sample of 600 men in the same city includes
400 smokers. Was the proportion of smokers decrease significantly? Test
at a 5% level of significance.

30. The following table shows the number of motor registration and sales of
tires by a wholesale dealer in Kathmandu for a term of 5 years.

31. Seven coins are tossed together. Find the probability of getting (i) no head

32. The probability that a man fishing at Janakpur will catch 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
fishes are 0.10, 0.25,0.30, 0.20, 0.15, 0.10 respectively. Compute E(4X + 7)
and standard deviation of (4X + 7).
33. If a die is rolled at a time, then find the probability of getting (i) even
number (ii) a number multiple of 3 (iii) less than 5 (iv) more than 2 (v) at
least 2 (iv), not more than 2.
34. The following table shows the number of motor registration and sales of
tires by a wholesale dealer in Kathmandu for a term of 5 years.

35. A continuous random variable X follows the normal distribution with a
mean 750 and a standard deviation 100. Find the probability of X lies (a)
between 650 to 950 (b) above 950.
36. Daily expenditure on lunch of the staff of Mega Bank of 400 employees
was found to be normally distributed with a mean of Rs.120 and a
standard deviation of Rs.30. Find the number of employees having
expenditures Rs.105 and Rs.140.
37. The annual salaries of employees in a large company are approximately
normally distributed with a mean of $50,000 and a standard deviation of
$20,000.
(i) What percent of employees earn less than $40,000?
(ii) What percent of employees earn between $45,000 and $65,000?

38. A sample of 500 bulbs from a company showed an average life of 1400
hours with a standard deviation of 30 hours. Obtain 95% and 99% fudicial
limits for the population mean.
39. A survey of 350 people shopping at a mall, selected at random showed
that 250 of them used cash and 100 of them used credit cards, construct a
95% confidence interval estimate of the proportion of all the persons at
the mall, who use cash for shopping.
