Intramurals aim to instill among pupils the values inherent in sports such as
discipline, teamwork, excellence, fair play, solidarity, and sportsmanship. Another
purpose is to enable pupils to realize their strengths and weaknesses and be able to
improve in each area of sports, as well as to determine the potential athletes’ who will
represent them in their higher meets. That is why Aurora Elementary School, in
collaboration with the Department of Education, conducted its intramurals activity on
October 13–14, 2023. The said activity is spearheaded by the school principal, Sir
Rogelio M. Eugenio, with the help of the teachers.
On the first day, pupils wore their shirts, representing the color of their team. It
started off with a simple parade at exactly 7:30 a.m., starting from the school
grounds, going to the barangay hall, then returning to the school vicinity. Pupils yelled
their chants and waived their props, letting the people know what team they’re on.
After the parade, a short ceremony was held. It started with an opening prayer led by
Ma’am Floring A. Ramos, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem,
conducted by Ma’am Jenalyn P. Padilla. A short opening and welcome remarks were
delivered by SPESS Coordinator, Sir Rogelio M. Rabec Jr., and he also presented the
different teams: Red Love, Blue Hope, White Peace, and Yellow Unity. Then, the torch
lighting was done by a sixth-grade pupil, Hanze Cedryk Pentojo. Sir Rogelio M.
Eugenio, the school principal, formally gave his short message and declaration.
Finally, the most anticipated moment of all, the games started with athletics,
followed by ball games, board games, and laro ng lahi. The athletics, ball games, and
board games are games for pupils in grades 3 to 6, while the laro ng lahi is for
kindergarten to grade 2 pupils. The games for laro ng lahi are sack races, balloon
relays, and agawan ng tsinelas. The search for Mr. and Mrs. Intramurals takes place at
exactly 1:30 p.m. in the afternoon.
The final day has come, and the remaining competitors are under pressure to
take on the championship finals of their respective games. In the afternoon, at 1:30
p.m., there was the awarding ceremony and the giving of certificates.
