CASE BASED QUESTIONS
48. Raycasting is a technique used in the creation of computer games. The basic
idea of raycasting is as follows: the map is a 2D square grid. Using rays generated
from an object, this 2D map can be transformed into a 3D perspective. One of
the methods involves sending out a ray from the player’s location. To determine
how far he/she is from a wall or an obstacle, the distance between the player’s
coordinates and the coordinate of the wall is calculated. If the player is near the
obstacle, it looks larger and vice-versa.
Raju wants to create an online snooker game using raycasting. The game in the
casting stage. On a coordinate map is shown below.

The snooker table has 6 pockets(P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6). And he has shown 3 balls-
white(W), red(R) and green(G) on the table. The objective of the game is to use
the white ball to hit the colored balls into the pocket using a cue stick.
Based on the above information, answer the following questions:
• How much distance will a ray travel if sent from the green ball to the nearest
pocket? Show your work.
• Raju wants to place a yellow ball at the midpoint of the line connecting the
white and green balls. Find the coordinates of the point at which he should place
the yellow ball. Show your steps.
• Raju is running a trial on his game. He struck the white wall in a way that it
rebound off the rail (line connecting P4 and P6) and went into the pocket P2.
After the rebound, the ball crossed the x-axis at point X(2/7,0) on the way to
the pocket.
The ratio of the distance between the rail and point X and the distance
between point X and the pocket was 3:4.
Find the coordinates of the point at which the ball struck the rail. Show your
steps.
49. Soon below is a town plan on a coordinate grid, where 1 unit=1 km Consider the
coordinates of each building to be the point of intersection of the respective grid
lines.

Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

B. H5 and H7 C. H5 and H8 D. H5 and H1}
• What is the distance between the school and house 1 along the path shown?
• A whale is dug at a point along the path joining the pond and the hospital. The
ratio of the distance between the pond and the well to that of the well and the
Hospital is 4:1 respectively. What is the ordinate of the well?
• What is the ratio in which House 1 divides the path joining House 3 and the
police station?
•Which of the following pair of buildings are separated by the same distance as
that of school and police station? {A. Pond and H8 B. School and H1 C. Water
tank and H3 D. Fire station and H3}
50. A city school is organizing annual sports event in rectangular shaped ground
ABCD. The tracks are being marked with a gap of 1m each in a form of a straight
lines. 120 flower pots are placed with a distance of 1 m each along AD. Shruti ran
⅓th of the distance in the second line. Along AD and post her flag. Sanvi ran ⅕th
of the distance in the eighth line and posts her flag.

Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

• The distance between the two flag is?

• If Reena has to post the flag exactly halfway between the line segment joining
two flags, the coordinates where she should place her flag are??
• The coordinates were Shruti posts her flag are??
• The coordinates where Sanvi posts her flag are??
51. Tharunya was thrilled to know that the football tournament is fixed with a
monthly time frame from 20th July to 20th August 2023 and the first time in the
FIFA Women’s World Cup’s history, two nations host in 10 venues. Her father felt
that the game can be better understood if the position of players is represented
as points on a coordinate plane.

Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

• At an instance, the mid fielders and forward formed a parallelogram. Find the.
position of the central mid fielder(D) if the position of other players who formed the
parallelogram are: A(1,2), B(4,3), C(6,6).

• If defensive mid fielder A(1,4), Attacking mid fielder B(2,-3) and striker E(a,b) lie on
the same straight line and B is equidistant from A and E, find the position of E.

52. Jagdish has a field which is in the shape of a right angle triangle AQC. He wants
to leave a space in the form of a square PQRS inside the field for growing wheat
and the remaining for growing vegetables. In the field, there is a pole marked as
O.

Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

• Taking O as origin, coordinates of P are (-200,0) and Q are (200,0). PQRS being a
square, what are the coordinates of R and S?

• What is the area of a square PQRS?

• What is the length of diagonal PR in a square PQRS?
