Polynomials (Subjective)

Maximum Marks – 80 Time allowed – 3 hours

General Instructions – This paper has 12Qs of 2 marks, 10Qs of 3 marks, 2Qs of 5 marks
and 4 case study questions (each carrying 4 marks). All questions are compulsory.

Section A (2 marks each)


Ques 1 If each one of the following graphs is the graph of a polynomial, then find the
number of zeroes and also write them

Ques 2 For what real value of k, is 3 a zero of the polynomial 2x2 + x + k

Ques 3 If truth and lie are zeroes of the polynomial px2 + qx + r, (p ≠ 0) and zeroes are
reciprocal to each other. Find the relation between p and r.

zeroes is 6.

zeroes equal to half of their product.

Ques 11 If both the zeroes of quadratic polynomial p(x) = (m + 3)x2 – (m + 4)x + 7 are
equal in magnitude but opposite in sign, then find the value of m

Ques 12 If one the zero of a polynomial 3x2 – 8x + 2k + 1 is seven times the other, find the
value of k.

Ques 13 Riddhi throws a stone in the air such that it follows a parabolic path before it lands
at P on the ground as depicted by the graph below.

(A) The above graph is represented by a polynomial where the sum of its zeroes is 1 and the
sum of the squares of its zeroes is 25. Find the coordinates of P and Q.
(B) If one unit on the graph represents 25 metres, how far from Riddhi does the stone land?
Show your work.

and the other root of the equation.

Ques 20 A toy rocket is fired into the air from the top of a tall building. Let its height above
the ground after time t seconds be given by p(t) = 24t2 – 41t + 12

(A) What will be the shape of the graph representing the height of the rocket above the
ground?
(B) Find the number of zeroes of the graph given.
(C) Find the zeroes of the graph represented by p(t) = 24t2 – 41t + 12.

Ques 21 If one zero of the quadratic polynomial f(x) = 4x2 – 8kx + 8x – 9 is negative of the
other, then find zeroes of kx2 + 3kx + 2.

Ques 22 If the zeroes of the polynomial x2 + px + q are double in value to the zeroes of
2x2 – 5x – 3, find the value of p and q.

Section D (Case Study Based Questions)

Ques 25 The below picture are few examples of natural parabolic which is represented by a
quadratic polynomial. A parabolic arch is an arch in the shape of a parabola. In structures,
their curve represents an efficient method of load, and so can be found in bridges and in
architecture in a variety of forms.

(i)If α and 𝛼 are the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial 2x2 – x + 8k, then find the value of k.
(ii) Find the sum of zeroes of p(x) = kx2 – kx + 5.
(iii) Write a quadratic polynomial whose one zero is 4 and product of zeroes is 0.
(iv) Find the zeroes of p(x) = x2 – 7x + 1

Ques 26 An asana is a body posture,


originally and still a general term for a sitting

Ques 28 While playing in garden, Sahiba saw a honeycomb and asked her mother what is
that. She replied that it’s a honeycomb made by honey bees to store honey. Also, she told
her that the shape of the honeycomb formed is parabolic. The mathematical
representation of the honeycomb structure is shown in the graph.

(i) What is the expression of the polynomial represented by the graph.


(ii) Find the value of the polynomial represented by the graph when x = 6 and – 6
(iii) Find the sum of zeroes of the obtained polynomial in question
(iv) If the sum of zeroes of polynomial at2 + 5t + 3a is equal to their product, then find
the value of a.
