Geography of Pakistan:
 Pakistan is located in the Western part of Asia

 Lies between 23 degrees 35 minutes to 37 degrees 05 minutes North Latitude

 Lies between 60 degrees 50 minutes to 77 degrees 50 minutes East Longitude

 It has four provinces

1) Punjab (largest by population 118.3 million)

2) Sindh (population 52 million)

3) KPK (population 36.9 million)

4) Balochistan (Largest by area, population 13 million)

• According to UN data Pakistan’s population is 220,892,340/ 220 million

• Pakistan’s land area covers 297,638 square miles

• The population density in Pakistan is 287 per kilometer square

• Pakistan is bordered by china to the northeast ( border length is 559 km)

• Pakistan is bordered by India on the east ( border length is 2240km international border
excluding LOC and working boundary)

• Pakistan is bordered by Afghanistan to the northwest ( border length is 2640km according to


National Geographic Society)

1) Durand line: established on 12 November 1893 after 2nd Anglo-Afghan war

2) Agreement between Sir Mortimer Durand the secretary of the British Indian
government and Abdul Rahman the emir of Afghanistan

• Pakistan is bordered by Iran to the West ( border length 909 km)

• The coast of the Arabian sea forms the Southern border of Pakistan

• Length of coastline is 1046km


Deserts of Pakistan
 Cholistan desert is one of the four major desert
 Cholistan desert is also known as Rohi desert
 Cholistan desert is located in the southern part of Punjab, Pakistan
 The Thar Desert is also known as Great Indian Desert.
 Thar desert is located partly in Rajasthan and partly in Punjab and Sindh of Pakistan
 Thar desert is the 18th largest desert of the world
 Thal desert is located in Punjab
 Thal desert lies between the Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab rivers
 Kharan desert is located in northwest Balochistan.
 Kharan desert is also known as the Sandy Desert
 The Kharan desert is basically covered with sand dunes, scrub vegetation, and weathered rocks
 The cold desert, also known as the Katpana desert or Biama Nakpo, is a high altitude desert
located near Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan.
 Katpana desert is located at an elevation of 2226 meters
(7,303 feet) above sea level.

Rivers of Pakistan
 The Indus river is the longest river of the Pakistan
 Indus river originate from the Tibetan plateau near lake Mansarovar in china
 The total length of the Indus river is 3,180km
 The annual flow of Indus river is twice that of the Nile and three times that of the Tigris and
Euphrates rivers combined
 River Indus is also called the Nile of Pakistan
 Indus river is also called Attock river/Abaseen/Mehran
 Mohenjodaro is located west of the Indus river in Larkana district
 Jhelum rises from a deep spring at Vernag, in western Jammu and Kashmir state, in Indian
occupied.
 Total length of the Jhelum is about 450 miles (725km)
 The length of river Chenab is 605 miles (974km)
 Ravi river is also called The River of Lahore
 The length of Ravi is 720km
 River Sutlej rises on the north slope of the Himalayas in Lake La’nga in south western Tibet
 The length of river Sutlej is 1450km

Doabs of Pakistan
1. The Chaj Doab→ is land between the River Chenab and Jhelum
2. The Rechna Doab → is the land between the river Ravi and the river Chenab
3. The Bari Doab → is the land area between the river Beas and the river Ravi
4. The Sindh Sagar Doab → is the land area between the Indus river and the Jhelum river
5. The Kirana Bar → is the portion of the Chaj doab
